As the magnificent 2016 World XV’s Season reaches it’s pinnacle, I think it’s best to look back on the season for all the highs and lows, all the misfortunes and mishaps, all the injuries and victories and of course all the brain rattling and sobbing. Ahhh who could forget the most frustrating, mind boggling and just flat out bewildering trade period ever! The amount of controversy and feelings hurt are still reverberating today. Any chance of compo am I right?
What about the redraft. Which in a highly controversial move saw the Buenos Aires coaches throw their team into a redraft with the newest WXV coach Adamant. Both teams have had interesting beginnings to their tenures, but both seem to be on the right track at this stage.
This year was easily one of the most competitive WXV seasons of the lot! No longer being dominated by the Mexico City Skunks or the bland Dublin Destroyed. Or was it? The word inconsistency is probably a word I could use to describe all 18 teams and all 825 players in the comp! Despite this, you had to feel like every team had a chance in every match. Which is all we can ask for in the end.
What about that final ladder? What about that final week of the season? So many teams that could make the top 8, so many teams that could secure a home final! What a way to finish the season.
As we approach the WXV Finals and ultimately the 2016 Grand Final, the end of yet another fantastic season, I think it is best to remember that being apart of the WXV is a very special thing and definitely the pinnacle of fantasy sports. Awards Night is a chance to celebrate this and to read a heck of a lot.
Apparently the most prestigious award being handed out tonight is the Jim Stynes Medal. This little thing has been won by 1 man and 1 God in it’s 4 year history. That’s right the SC God Gary Ablett won the first 3 editions of the Stynes Medal and a spud ruck won last year.

It’s a simple formula, the highest individual scorer in each of the Home and Away games is awarded 3 Votes, the second highest 2 Votes and the third highest 1 Vote.
Take Special note:If a player(s) is tied for the highest scorer in any game, or the 2nd or 3rd highest, the RANDOM function in Microsoft Excel decides who gets the highest amount of votes. For example:
Daisy Pearce and Tayla Harris both score 150 points each, which was the highest individual score of that game. The RANDOM function in Microsoft Excel awards (at random) Tayla Harris 3 Votes and Daisy Pearce 2 Votes.
This is likewise if Kellie Gibson scores 175 points, Daisy Pearce and Tayla Harris get the second highest, so the RANDOM function awards (at random) Pearce 2 Votes and Harris 1 Vote. And so on if Pearce and Harris got the 3rd highest score.
As the night rolls along ossie85 and Purple 77 will be announcing other esteemed awards such as the All-Worlds Team, Reserves All-Worlds Team, Rising Star Winner, Coaches Award and of course the Coach of the Year.
The night will take place on
Monday the 22nd of August, so ensure you have that night set aside and free up your calendar. If you’re a university student, stop procrastinating you lazy flowers and finish those assignments so you have an enjoyable night.
All players invited unless your name is Danyle Pearce. Also since WXV has pulled a finger out and actually spent money and booked a sizeable venue, feel free to bring along a date or someone else’s Mum. If all else fails a Katy Perry cardboard cutout will suffice.
Can i stick $1,000,000 on Danger at $1.0000000001 to 1.
It will be interesting to see whether a non mid will ever win this award again. Its hard to imagine someone matching Goldy. maybe Goldy again next year.
I wouldn't bet on him, but someone like a Heath Shaw could finish top 5 maybe
Upon this major announcement the Twitterverse has lit up!

Ah well, at least he doesn't tire himself out trying to be the best like Goldys' been trying to do, coz, you know, he already is the best.
To put it in perspective, Shaun Hampson will probably go as far as Goldstein, which makes sense really... Goldy and Hampson in the same sentence and all.

My premiership Performance was decent a 147 given all the restings. Thats better then Berlin most weeks.
How dare you peoples diss Little Mix and 5H?!?!?! Pathetic! Now we're just gonna have some overrated hack goth bands
Was actually gonna do a true blue Aussie lineup of Delta, Minogue Sisters, John Farnham but nah WXV is too big for that.
I'm sending a PM to everyone for some WXV Awards Night Superlatives!
Basically I have asked a series of questions and you simply answer them with the COACH you think is most likely to do these things.
Try not to tell anyone else as the results will be a surprise on awards night!
The questions are:
Question 1: Most likely to still be coaching when they are 75?
Question 2: Most insightful?
Question 3: Most WXV spirit?
Question 4: Most likely to spend 24 hours straight on FanFooty?
Question 5: Who shows the most sportsmanship?
Question 6: Coach you’d most want to verse in the Grand Final?
Question 7: Coach you’d want to be your assistant coach?
Question 8: Who talks the most?
Question 9: Most likely to be the best dressed?
Question 10: Most likely to secretly be spying on us because they work for the CIA?
I tried not to do anything too negative ahaha :D

Big News Regarding WXV Awards Night Jim Stynes Medal:
As all of you will know, each game of the season has been allocated votes for the best 3 players. Generally at awards night, whoever the host is, will read out who gets these votes.
This season will be different! Your host(Levi434) will be presenting up to 8 matches a round!
The BIG NEWS however, starting at Round 4, there will be a special guest vote reader presenting 1 or 2 games for that week.
I have been contacting a few players from around the league and currently have 5 names who are willing to read out a few votes!
Now is your chance to nominate who you think should be a special guest vote reader! Feel free to nominate yourself, one of your players, a past player, a celebrity. Whoever you think would shine under the bright lights of Vote Reading.
If you want guaranteed intense media focus, then you gotta get Jesse to mumble out a few votes :P
If Big Shano isn't getting involved, that's just poor form on behalf of those organising this prestigious event.
Predictions:
As the #WXVAN16 edges closer and the build up continues. Here are a few predictions you are free to make! You may notice that next to each question is a points allocation. The person who gets the most points will win a customised GIF direct from the Levi434 GIF-factory!!!!! ;D :o 8) :-* :)
- Highest score in a single game to not get a vote? 2 points
- Lowest score in a single game to get 3 votes? 2 points
- Highest averaging player to NOT get a vote? 3 points
- Lowest averaging player to get the MOST amount of votes? 3 points
- How many votes will the winner get? 3 points
- How many 3 vote games will the winner have? 2 points
- Who gets the most votes without having a 3 vote game? 3 points
- How many votes does Gary Ablett get? 2 points
- Who do you want to win? 1 points
- Predict who will win? 1 points
- Who will get the most amount of votes from your team? 1 points
Total of 23 Points.

One week to go smol beans!
New York is nominating Josh J Kennedy for our coaches award
Has been the rock of our forward line all year and hasn't missed a game
This may come as a surprise but NDT will nominate...
Stephen flowering Coniglio.
This kid is a superstar. From kicking 4 goals and having 17possies in a WAFL grand final (as a 16yr old!), to averaging 29.1 disposals a game, Conigs has become an elite mid.
His SC average this year has jumped from 91 to 109 and is now a genuine captaincy lock for us.
The <3 is real
Special mentions:
Seb Ross - average jump from 67 to 92 and become a regular starter for us
Jeremy Howe - jump from 74 to 89, but a massive 98ave since playing regularly in defence
Tom Scully - jump from 83 to 98
Mexico City Suns will nominate Daniel Wells
After only playing two games last year, everyone thought he was finished. Missing Brent Stanton and Harley Bennell from a Best XV all year we needed someone to step up. Enter Daniel Wells. He has come back into the side this year and has been awesome as a forward averaging 100ppg and has been a key to our success this year.

Oh that's a good one too
Coaches Award Nomination: Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti! Ineligible for the Rising Star because of his age but definitely up there for find of the year, especially considering he came as a rookie. Shining light in our horrible defence (& team in general) this year & had been waiting years for him to get drafted so a personal fave!

Here we are coaches! Less than a week to go until the #WXVAN16 I'm giving you a behind the scenes guide on the best possible way to watch the Awards Ceremony. As you can see the diagram is very in depth so get prepared! The upcoming weekend is a good time to head down to your local technology store and get your gear otherwise degrade the Aussie economy some more and save 50% by buying online and it should hopefully be here by Monday!
Haha that's gold Levi!

I remember when I was on the cusp of cracking top 10 for time online on the forum I didn't know whether to be proud or ashamed, but then Dave went past me pretty quickly and I'm not beating him any time soon. 8)

More what? :P
fun fact 1: there are 6 original coaches in WXV still in charge of their original team (m2 ofc is number 7 but his in charge of a separate team)
which leads into
Fun Fact 2: M2 is the only World coach to ever start 2 teams into existence
Fun Fact 3: after the Initial draft there was a trade period before the 2012 season started
of the 18 teams 17 total trades were done
with Berlin, Cairo, Moscow, Tokyo all leading the way with 3 trades each
(note in counting the trades remember 17 in total is at least 34 teams not including if 3 way trades etc...BTW there was no 3 way trades anyways)
Fun Fact 4: New Dehli and Wellington were the only teams not to have a trade in the before season 2012 trade period
You're right, those facts were fun! :D

And, I LOL'd at winning the vote for best dressed - I don't even own a suit!
That being said, I'd make sure I looked sharp at the Awards Night, but I pretty much wear jeans/shorts with Hoodie etc every day including to work so I don't think I deserve the award haha
Cried not getting a single vote as being wanted as an assistant :'( Guess my rep around here isn't too good :-[
Awards Night starts at 6:30pm AEST be there!
Ok guys... to start of Awards Day, Purps and I noticed an error in the stats from a while ago.... that actually caused a significant change in results.
This unfortunately means that
NEW DELHI did not make the Grand Final.
.....
kidding!
But we did find a mistake, that impacted the result of the 2015 Rep match between EurAsia and AAP Alliance that quite frankly was amazing that nobody picked up.
The result was this:
QuoteAAP bliCaves in to EurAsia Goldstein
Wow! WHAT A MATCH! The Alliance seemed to be just in front the whole match, but lost the lead at the end! In the final sprint, there was only one man left standing; enter Kade Simpson. The man that won last year's Worlds Medal for best afield; he needed 96 points to bring it home for the AAP. Heart-breakingly for AAP, he fell 8 points short, as the Holz coached EurAsia defeated the JROO8 coached AAP Alliance in a 1 point (7 SC points) victory for the ages!
The 4th occurrence of the epic encounter is perhaps the most memorable, with the win to EurAsia squaring up the ledger to 2-apiece.
The game saw an incredible 16 centurions (9-7 to EurAsia) and is unsurprisingly the highest scoring match so far in the year. Perhaps the most unique stat of the match was that 4 ruckman played between the teams (2 each), where they combined for 573 points (captain bonuses aside). Furthermore, two of these ruckman (as hinted in the headline); Goldstein (154) and Blicavs (153) were the captains for the game and the two highest scoring players :o
Both teams had their disappointments; for EurAsia, look no further than Tom McDonald (36) and Luke Hodge (57), and for the AAP Tom Mitchell (49) and Steele Sidebottom (70) crumbled under the pressure. EurAsia had 4 scores under 70 compared to the AAP's 1, but it was the inspired performances of Dublin's Goldstein, Moscow's Nic Naitanui (146) and Berlin's Nat Fyfe (138) that got them over the line in the end.
EurAsia (25.18.168) def AAP Alliance (25.17.167)
Best
EurAsia: Nat Fyfe (Berlin), Patrick Dangerfield (Seoul), Dan Hannebery (London), Callan Ward (Moscow), Todd Goldstein (Dublin), Dane Swan (PNL), Matt Priddis (PNL), Nic Naitanui (Moscow), Alex Rance (Dublin)
AAP Alliance: Heath Shaw (New York), Scott Pendlebury (Toronto), Dayne Beams (Cairo), Mark Blicavs (Cape Town), Brett Deledio (Mexico City), Stefan Martin (Cape Town), Josh P Kennedy (Cape Town)
Late Changes
EurAsia: Kurt Heatherley (Dublin), Jaeger O'Meara (Moscow) replaced by Nic Naitanui (Moscow), Alex Rance (Dublin)
AAP Alliance: Michael Johnson (Mexico City) replaced by Liam Picken (Christchurch)
TODD GOLDSTEIN wins the EURASIA Medal and the WORLDS Medal
MARK BLICAVS wins the AAP ALLIANCE Medal
However, unfortunately a mathematical error occurred!
EurAsia finished on 1668 points.
AAP Alliance finished on 1673 points.
So instead of it being a 7 SC point victory to EurAsia, it was actually a 5 SC point victory to AAP Alliance.
Not sure how it happened! But we've tripled checked.
So sorry Holz, this is a bad week for you, we have to give the official victory to JROO8's AAP Alliance.
Os
flower me
Do not do that again!
:-[
I noticed it by complete fluke when I was trying to merge my EurAsia/AAP records with ossies.
I was doing a weird thing at the time where I would cease automatically calculating a value when I thought it no longer needed to be calculated... ugh. I felt a lot of embarrassment when I realised the error, that's for sure :-[

I literally wrote 3000 words of an assignment and submitted it today because of this (and not because the due date being today). Now I have to go to a uni group meeting, whom I've told I have to get back by 6.30. I'm too ashamed to mention why.
The point of this story? I might be 5 minutes tops late :-X

As the season got underway, Dublin were finally able to get over London, Tokyo scored an impressive 152 and in what became match of the round the Jaguars led by the returning Gary Ablett secured an epic 1 point victory to get their season off to a flyer. Round 4
(Kurt Tippett)
G'Day. The story of the early season was New York with their captains constantly putting up sub-par scores. The questions would arise; “Is NY done?†Many would end up TIPPING 2.5-4.5 Nige’s that they were! Round 4 however was perhaps the most tightly contested round of the year. 6 of the 9 games contested by under 10 WXV points(100SC Points)!

Alrighty! It is time to announce the 2016 Coaches Award!
Taking note that Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Christchurch and Seoul all forgot to vote.
The winner is no other than a man taken at Pick 36 in the 2015 Rookie Draft that would go on to match the scoring of almost any premium defender you will find!

Round 5
(Tex Walker)
In round 5 NDT showed up, stomped the ground and invited everyone to challenge them. NDT indeed arrived and top scored the week with 159!
The Islanders also had themselves a week with 7 centurions raising the boot. But we had a death this week in WXV. Not of a player or person, but of Purple 77’s finals aspirations. Nat Fyfe’s leg seemingly flew off and kicked Purple right in the kisser, as his and Berlin’s season were both done.

Petraccattackkkkkk!!! That’s right I’m so good that in WXV Round 6 Jing had to unleash the Petraccattack strategy named after your’s truely. In other news… who cares about other news? Now it's time for the prestigious Coach of the Year!
Our winner this year received at least 1 vote from every single coach (except from themselves) in what I think is clearly a well earned title, and that this vote was a mere formality.
From Wooden Spooners to Grand Finalists, I announce the Coach(es) of the Year to be...
Ricochet and elephants from New Delhi (36 votes)

(Josh Kennedy wait not that one, or that one it's the one from soccer geez):
What you know about 178? Lets ask New York as they humiliated Dublin with a HGA of 83! This week was indeed the week of big scores with a lot of teams going 140+. The Dillos improved to a 4 match win streak, as the top 5 teams all moved to a 6-2 record! Again that is 5 teams all tied for top place.

Round 10
(Purple 77)
Round 10 begins the second half of the season; where the teams that have so far emerged and surprised, would be tested in the weeks to come to prove their finals mettle or reclaim some lost credibility. It was at this stage PNL & Buenos Aires showed that they could recover from questionable starts and get back on level pegging terms, while Beijing & New Delhi continued to "wow" us with their much improved teams. The game of the round however saw Buenos Aires travel to Berlin and claim their 6th consecutive win by 2 WXV points, although there was also 5 other ripping encounters that saw the result decided within 15 WXV points. It was certainly a week to remember; especially seeing Islander Tom Mitchell's 178 play the lone hand against the Reindeers.

Round 11
(Nige)
WXV Round 11 was always going to be an interesting affair with some genuinely match-ups scheduled. In one of the games of the year, Beijing were unable to break their duck against Pacific. Rio conquered Berlin with an interesting wager on the line much to Levi434's delight and uhh... I can't say it. Shane Mumford, come on down.

Send help! Bloody hell lads! I can't do this all on my own! Nige I think you need to undertake a roster overhaul and let me become the Captain-Coach. Well it was an atrocity of a round for us so yep... How many OOP's did we have? 3? 4? I'm bloody good but I can't play on 5 guys! 4 maybe.

Round 12
(Ossie)
Round 12 had a lot of highlights - but the games between top 4 fancies Dublin, New York and PNL and stugglers Toronto, London and Tokyo weren't among them, low scoring thrashings? Yuck. If it is going to be a trashing, at least let it be a high scoring one like Mexico City's (who had 9 centurions) flogging of a plucky Pacific.
The real highlight was arguable the match of the year, when the Patrick Dangerfield lead Seoul Magpies defeated the Gary Ablett led Rio de Janeiro Jaguars by a solitary point in a 321 point affair!
New Delhi were left to lament a real chance to consolidate a finals spot against Cape Town, with Tigers co-coach Ricochet publicly (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,107369.msg1776139.html#msg1776139) lashing Sidebottom, Howe and Bugg for falling well short of expectations, as Dean Kent of all people the hero for a struggling Cape Town
Moscow had probably the highlight of its season to forget, breaking a 7-match winning streak from Buenos Aires with a 9 point victory. With Docherty and Hogan playing starring roles, the future looks brighter for Moscow. In what turned out to be a big loss for Christchurch, they went down in a tight affair against Beijing.
While Berlin kept its season alive with an as-expected victory over cellar-dweller Cairo, despite Purple 77's strange attraction to certain players (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,107369.msg1774208.html#msg1774208).
Other off-field notes included a savage response by PNL co-coach Hellopplz against Thunder coach Toga, who questioned on the record the value of Billy Stretch (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,107369.msg1775788.html#msg1775788). While New York were lamenting the loss off Kurt Tippett, and Dublin had issues with Rory Sloane's availability (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,107369.msg1775287.html#msg1775287).

Round 14
(Steele Sidebottom):
WXV paused for week prior to Round 14, for the annual AAP VS EurAsia clash which saw: EurAsia waltz to an easy victory? Hold on. I wrote this speech before today. Damn.
Who would have thought that the top 3 teams in WXV could all lose in the same week? Welp it happened!
Round 14 in WXV spelled to be cursed for the Jaguars. With all hopes of a Premiership in 2016, dashed as WXV Legend Gary Ablett went down with a shoulder injury.
Again I wrote this before this week! Geez.

Round 16
(Tom Rockliff):
My hammy hurts. We witnessed the Magpies keep their season alive with a 1 point victory over New York! That wasn’t the only result that had major implications. The Saints, Dillos, NDT, Islanders and PNL all had results that would prove fatal in the context of their respective seasons. Whilst many teams started to plan for the next season as trade talk and other "wars" waged on. No need for compo I say.

Round 17
(Rory Sloane):
What a round this was. Nearly every game had deeper implications that what the surfaced showed. HGA cost the Magpies a place in the finals. NDT secured their place in the finals. The Samurai choke saw New York scrape into the finals. As Dublin beat the arch-rivals Mexico in a replay of last years GF. What a round. Too bad the votes aren't as interesting as the round was.

Undisputed winner in the end! A huge congratulations to Patrick Dangerfield and club Seoul, whom have had a pretty good night with the Rising Star as well!
And a HUUUGGGEEEEE appreciation for the best WXV Award's host ever in Levi! There was so many subtle details that probably won't get recognised but didn't go unnoticed that made tonight SO awesome!
The build-up was superb too... just exceptional work Levi :D
Thanks for coming out lads! You all suck for not voting GAJ but yeah thanks to all who participated.
Damn lot of work all that! Was fun to do! One day if I'm bothered I may go through it all and find out just how many references I put it.
Just to let you know that the after party is just getting started! Join Boomz at the bar for some sake!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Unbelievable job Levi!
Appreciate all the time and effort you put in :)
Well Done Levi! Outstanding Event.
Sort of thing you could put on a resume. :P

;).
Awesome work Levi and was an enjoyable read (I'm late to the party as crashed out a bit too early today). I caught a few references but there are surely many I skipped over or just didn't get ;D. Loved the gifs especially Danger in a suit on the board ;D. So chill, but he would be enjoying himself winning the medal!
Outstanding work Levi!
Also a big congrats to Danger!
Thanks for all the love guys! Means a lot! :-*

1-2 votes $12
3-5 votes $6
6-8 votes $5
9+ votes $1.50
The money was spot on too
Dochers doubled robbed tonight - in the coaches award (how does a 79 average beat a 109 average so comprehensively? Damn ABMs), and missed out on 6th because he draw with Merrett in one game :/
(And yes, I did completely forget about this all night)

Introducing... the All-Worlds team of 2016! Congratulations to all players selected!
D: Sam Docherty (Moscow), Heath Shaw (Mexico City), Kade Simpson (Mexico City), Matthew Boyd (Christchurch)
M: Patrick Dangerfield (Seoul), Scott Pendlebury (Buenos Aires), Josh P Kennedy (Cape Town), Lachie Neale (Beijing)
R: Max Gawn (Berlin)
F: Dayne Zorko (Beijing), Zachary Merrett (PNL), Dustin Martin (Dublin), Nick Riewoldt (Mexico City)
U: Joel Selwood (Dublin), Daniel Hannebery (London)
CAPTAIN: Patrick Dangerfield (Seoul)
VICE CAPTAIN: Max Gawn (Berlin)
COACH: Winner of the WXV 2016 Premiership
From that team, Gary Ablett is HUGELY unlucky to miss out - had a great season average. Reckon Todd Goldstein and Daniel Wells can feel a bit aggrieved also...
First timers in the team number 7, and they are breakout players Sam Docherty, Lachie Neale, Zack Merrett and Max Gawn (who was named Vice-Captain in an amazing year). Veterans Matty Boyd and Kade Simpson got good rewards for great careers, and Dayne Zorko also got his first nod.
Making the team a second time are JP Kennedy (2014) who was reward for another consistent season, veteran Nick Riewoldt (2013) and star Royal Dan Hannebery (2015).
Third timers include Heath Shaw (2012, 2015) who had an outstanding season, young Superstar Dustin Martin (2013, 2015) and champion Joel Selwood (2012, 2013).
Patrick Dangerfield was named Captain, and has made the team 5 out of 5 times. Scott Pendlebury, Mr. Consistent, makes the team for an incredible 5th time also.
Players that missed out from last years team were Shaun Higgins, Luke Hodge, Liam Picken, Nat Fyfe, Todd Goldstein, Brett Deledio, Robbie Gray, Dane Swan, David Mundy and Matt Priddis. With Shaw, Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Martin and Hannebery the only players keeping spots.
3rd placed on H&A ladder and beaten Prelim Finalist Mexico City had the most representatives with 3, followed by Minor Premier Dublin with 2 and bottom 10 team Beijing also with 2.
Amazingly, this years Grand Finalists Rio de Janeiro and New Delhi had 0 players in the team. Ablett the big missing player in the team (but won't be playing in the GF anyway), while New Delhi didn't even have a member in the squad. Actually, 8 of the 15 players in the team came from bottom 10 teams.
Mexico City - 3
Dublin - 2
Beijing - 2
Berlin - 1
Buenos Aires - 1
Cape Town - 1
Christcurch - 1
London - 1
Moscow - 1
PNL - 1
Seoul - 1
And minor correction - the coach of the team is the same as the coach of the year - so regardless of this weekends result, Ricochet and elephants are the All-Worlds coaches.

;D We'll take that
Scott Pendlebury finishes in the Jim Stynes Medal:
2012: 2nd
2013: 2nd
2014: 6th (equal)
2015: Outside top 10
2016: 2nd (equal)
3 time runner-up
Nice work to Danger - was it ever in doubt?
Happy with Neale and Zorko's efforts in making the All-Worlds team, while Neale and Callan Ward put in a good showing in the votes as well.
Awesome work Lev!
presenting more fun facts from WXV history in trading
after the 2012 season the trade period got underway with the negging rule in place
121 total trades passed
9 total were negged
Moscow raced to be the first team to 20 trades notching that up with trade #116
but it was Cairo who actually done the most overtaking moscow and finishing with 25 trades to 22
the only two teams to go past the 20 mark
Buenos Aires were slow starters taking until trade #24 before being involved in their first passing trade
ionly 3 teams stayed under the double figure mark of 10 they were
Sao Paulo 9, PNL 7, Cape Town 5
while mexico had the most negged with 4 closely followed by New Delhi with 3
in trade period 2 only 2 trades were done
involving Cairo yet again, Bublin, Cape Town and Seoul
We win the stats that count. God we're amazing.
