The prestige is real!
It is time for the glorious Jim Stynes medal to be awarded, which has had only one recipient over the past 3 years; the might Gary Ablett Jnr. Which just makes this year that little bit more interesting! I don't want to imply anything, but GAJ managed just the 3 games this year...
This year has been another tremendous chapter in WXVs history, lets have a look at the snapshot!
We saw the introduction of the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars and Christchurch Saints, whom although had differing results this year, looks to be a tremendous big-picture success. Then, we saw our Administrator of 3 years hand over the reigns to a coach of 3 years in my fine self, which for a time would have made the coaches perhaps feel uncertain of whether Worlds would continue to enjoy the high quality that it has from 2012-2014. Come Round 1, it was an adapting period for new coaches and myself, but really it was a raging success with some glimpses of the season to come. And I feel from start to finish, it was a highly enjoyable season.
Last year we saw how popular the hashtag #NoMummyNoCairo was, but, seeing as Mumford didn't make too much of a difference for Cairo this year, there was another similarly hilarious phenomenon. I speak of course of the meow meow & Holz debate between Sandilands and Rockliff, which has been mentioned all year to the amusement of the other 16 coaches.
Whether you had a successful year or not, a lot was to me remembered this year and it is now where we celebrate it. I talk of Persona's like the confident Holz, the witty & humble roo boys, "Karen's boys", the tag-team at New York, HP & his (now not-so) silent partner and their casted out blitz... and teams like the improved Islanders and Revolution, the professional Saints, the London Dublin-killers, heck even the unfortunate New Delhi! It was just an awesome year, and as we approach the Grand Final between Dublin & Mexico City, it starts to draw to a close. Well, the on-season anyway.
Like the years before, ossie and I will be giving out several awards but none more prestigious than the...
The Jim Stynes Medal!
It's a simple formula, where the highest individual scorer in each game of the Home and Away Season is awarded 3 votes, the second highest 2 votes and the third highest 1 vote.
Take Note:
If a player tied for the highest scorer in any game, or the 2nd highest or the 3rd highest, the RANDOM function in Microsoft excel decides who gets the highest amount of votes. For example:
Andrew Raines and Karmichael Hunt both got 160 points each, which was the highest individual score of that game. The RANDOM function in the Microsoft Excel Function awards (at random) Andrew Raines 3 votes and Karmichael Hunt 2 votes.
This is likewise if Alipate Carlile gets 180 points, Raines and Hunt get the second highest, so the RANDOM function awards (at random) Raines 2 votes and Hunt 1 vote. And so on if Hunt and Raines got the third highest score.
At Round's 5, 10 and 15, ossie85 will be announcing awards including the All-Worlds Team, The Rising Star Award, The Coach of the Year and The Coaches Award.
The night will take place on Wednesday September 2nd, 7.30PM AET, so be sure to cancel all of your other plans!
Also, feel free to invite anyone along and reserve a table... whether it be your B&F winner or your favourite celebrities such as regular Dave Grohl, who just loves these events.
It's gonna be AWESOME! Hope to see everyone there!
Rocky to win in 2016
Goldy to get robbed just like the real brownlow
Confident Holz is about the nicest thing you have said all year. Was expecting more Arrogant Holz, Egotistical Holz etc..
Looking forwards to seeing how some of our Beijing boys go this year :)
Danger to finish #3
Sandi and Gibbs combined to get more votes than Rocky

I would be willing to bet alot.
that including this year and untill they retire that
Rocky will double sandi + gibbs in votes. We know Spud gibbs wont be getting many.
Gaff will win it

We all know that Fyfe will win.
plays for the guy adding up the poll :P
its the fairest and best and, Fyfe clearly not the fairest or the best so should be ineligible.
Gaj for four-peat
You guys acting like Shane Mumford hasnt won is kind of funny.
Heater should win it
113 avg, hasn't missed a game. That's massive. A defender scoring like an elite mid, and actually playing in defense!

unfortunately there is no bonus for postions.
what I did in the euro when i did the award was each week average the 72 defenders playing in the euro then do the point differential with the score each player got and their positional average. However that took me like 10 hours to do.
Goldy as a 128 average is pretty huge and probably would win easy with that system.
Robbie gray 110 would also be a chance.

Not even the best Gray tbh
Just give Hoges the (only important) medal already imho
I would back Goldy for the medal - My London stars were a little inconsistent to be high up in the medal count.

Issue for him will be more the players stealing votes from him. Should poll well though
And with this, I declare the WXVs Award Ceremony in motion!

Dublin and PNL - the two top teams - each had 3 players in the Starting 15, each of the other finalists had one each with the exception of Pacific - but coach Jayman is this year's All-Worlds coach.
Todd Goldstein was named Captain, with Nat Fyfe his deputy.
Cape Town's Higgins, London's Hannebery, Seoul's Dangerfield and Toronto's Pendlebury were the only players from this year's team from teams OUTSIDE the finals. Tokyo, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, Cairo, Buenos Aires and New Delhi also had no players.
Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Pendlebury are the only players to be named in all 4 of the All-Worlds teams (quite a remarkable achievement really)
This was the 2nd All-Worlds cap for Todd Goldstein, Nat Fyfe, Heath Shaw, Brett Deledio, Robbie Gray, Dustin Martin and Dane Swan. Meaning only 6 players were named in the team for the first time - Shaun Higgins, Luke Hodge, Liam Picken, Dan Hannebery, David Mundy and Matt Priddis.

A terrific story. Mark Blicavs was ACCIDENTALLY chosen in one of the last few picks of the 2012 draft. He was auto-picked, which caused some serious tension between coaches.
Drafted as a rookie for the Mexico City Suns, Blicavs was traded to the Cape Town Cobras, and the former steeple chaser was nominated for the All-Worlds side!
A very worthy Coaches pick, well done Blicavs, who won by a whopping 27 votes.

well done pillstein
Berlin v London.
I showed a great deal of restraint.
The random excel function could have give Fyfe 2 votes, as 3 people were tied on 134, two of which would receive 1 or 2 votes.
But excel said no :(
Be proud of me that I didn't corrupt it :P not that it would have made any difference :(

Oh yeah!
HOGAN YOU BEAST!
Thanks to ossie for collating and doing all those awards! Outstanding effort, and helped me a lot :)
Good work Danger you gun!
Really enjoyed reading through all of that
Congrats to Jayman on being Coach of the Year and Blitz was very deserving of winning the award too (Although Memph you have to stop reminding me of how we gave you him! haha) Was really proud to see Heater finish 3rd too
Looking back on the year I cant believe we actually beat Mexico - yeah they were down a few but still a big scalp
This was my first year in WXV, and I've really enjoyed it so thanks to all the other coaches for making this such a fun comp :)
Nice to see AK and I got some votes too for the coaches award - Being our first year and inheriting a team that never played finals and getting them into the 8 was really satisfying and I cant wait to see what we can do over the next 12 months :)
Well done Oss and Purps!
Have loved being a part of this competition again, always supremely well run.
Cheers to 2016! ;D
Great work Purps, loved reading through that.
Congrats Jay, thoroughly deserving coach of the year! :)
And congrats to big Goldstein on his big year. Well deserved accolade for an outstanding season.
Brilliant stuff as always Ossie and Purps
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT WAS ON TONIGHT, I SLEPT WHEN I GOT HOME!!
Awesomely run once again Oss and Purps, loved how the All Worlds team were announced one by one 8). Goldy ended the streak, even with that slowish start! Blitz ended PNL's run of Coaches Awards but he was the winner for good reason.
Happy we got 3 in the All Worlds Team, Swan and Hodge were gun recruits and Priddis stepped up further this season :D. If only Shiel didn't get injured early in the season, may have carried on his early voting form :'(.
Great work with this Os and Purps.
Congratulations Jayman.
Congrats Hoges GOAT WXV rising star.
Blicavs the rightful winner, huge effort from him to well done to NY for trading him.
Goldy lucky that Fyfe and GAJ were injured.

nobody saw it coming. I could see him going to 80-85 and i thought I was being bold, but its an amazing effort from the kid. Never seen a player like him, basically the biggest midfielder to ever play the game.

The rumours are that Cape Town are considering a Franklin-esque 9 year deal to lock him in to the Cobras for the forseeable future

way too good to be in the reserves team.
Good boy Varcs :) Has been pretty decent as fill in for Jaensch over the second half of the season!
Rhineland was terrible this year, so to see Jesse Lonergan in there is great 8)
Crameri VC and Longer #1 ruck :D
Can we get a list of all the vote pollers, maybe team by team if that is possible? I just want to see that Matt Boyd polled more than Pendles again.
Jenk <3
Oss, how far away was Vickery from making the side?

Mummy with 8 and Dion with 5, not bad when you consider they both missed half the season. 8)
Yep cheers for pointing out how bad our year was, didn't realise ;)
83/102 aint bad.

Oss, how far away was Vickery from making the side?
Only the 6 Reserves Matches by my count Jukes, needed 9 to qualify
Sheridan and McPharlin served Marseilles well in helping claim a Minor Premiership there! Sheridan was able to crack into the senior side by the end of the year while McPharlin was a trusty emergency when called upon.
