Everybody's favourite knockout competition is back.
To quote the late and great competition admin - ossie85, here's how it works:

A simple game...
The lowest scoring team is eliminated each week, until we have a winner!
You can get immunity from elimination if you had the highest score the week before (up until round 10) - in which case the 2nd lowest scoring team is eliminated.
So, who has what it takes to be World Idol?
Eliminated TeamsR1: New Delhi
R2: Buenos Aires
R3: New York
R4: Cairo :'(
R5: Tokyo
R6: Seoul
R7: Toronto
R8: Beijing (only just)
R9: Rio De Janeiro
R10: Cape Town
R11: Christchurch
R12: Berlin
R13: Pacific
R14: London
R15: Moscow
R16: PNL
R17: Mexico City
Winner: Dublin
Never really been very good at this game...
Being good consistently has never been my thing :P
Havent I been runner up two years in a row?
lets go for a third.
Theoretically only Dublin or Mexico can win.
Let us see how wrong I am :P

The fun is really who can survive the longest that otherwise shouldn't or if there are any big name casualties early on.
Like Tokyo somehow making the final 7 or something the first time this ran. :P
I'm betting a team outside Mexico City/Dublin will win this one
It's starting to become a mere formality now, New Delhi are the first team out of World Idol in 2015.

Poor ndt... When I went through their list today, they were very unlucky that some players weren't named this week

Tell me about it... I actually had high hopes this year that our boys would show enough improvement to move out of the bottom 4. Its not off to a great start
World Idol wasn't made for you guys :P.
But hopefully get a few more playing coming weeks as expected, and ladder improvements can be expected 8).

haha it will be.. one day.
Yeh we just need the boys on the park
Celebrations are probably well and truly underway in Argentina but I'm here to spoil the party... not that they'll care too much with a win under their belt. We say adios to Buenos Aires this week.
They were top of the ladder last week, now they're clinging on to 8th by percentage. How the mighty have fallen! Sorry to the New York, but their time is this little competition is done and dusted for another year.
Wow, its a harsh comp this one!

Yep. Now it gets interesting.
Fair to say I didn't expect we would go out this early! :'(
I don't want to say it, but Cairo have to go. That's it. It's over. All done. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I sensed that was going to happen during the round :-X.

I didn't really bother announcing it every week since the winner was blatantly obvious. :P
Unfortunately, it was just a terrible week for Tokyo who found themselves at the mercy of Dublin and also produced a score that sees them farewell this competition for another year.

If you're going to perform badly, it may as well be against the best team.

this
I always do good against the good teams (see that flowering 177-154 game against Dublin last year) then absolutely shower the bed against teams at my level or below.

Yeah after this week thanks
Anyone following scores would probably have seen this coming. The time bomb was ticking and it's finally blown. Despite sitting at 3-3, this week we farewell Seoul whose low scores have finally caught up with them.
I think I resent Seoul more than anyone at the moment :P
im pretty sure Seoul has had its fair share of bad luck over the years ;)
Season 1 ring any bells

yup. 4th highest scoring team in 2012, misses out on finals. Mostly because Daniel Merrett scored 170ish. But I'm clearly over it
Nobody would have ever expected that :P.
It's a ruthless competition this one. One bad week can send you packing. This week, Toronto found that out the hard way. They've been a force so far this year, but their time in World Idol is done and dusted for 2015.
Bugger, I've had some decent runs in this comp so far. No longer I guess!
*whistles*
Dayum, can't have a bad week.
History has been made, I repeat... history has been made! Both Christchurch and Beijing have tied for the lowest score of the round of the teams still battling it out to be World Idol! That score? 1300. What happens now? Well, I can't tell you. Speculation is rife, but this cliffhanger will have to wait until tomorrow when my superiors let me know!
So highest position on the ladder prior to the round stays? Do both remain in then a double whammy next round to punish all teams? :o. Got me hooked!! Not really, but anything is more exciting than mathematical proofs.
Hmm-Kay.
I was tossing up between three different criteria to decide who should be eliminated:
1) Lowest on the Ladder
2) Lowest total points scored
3) Lowest score of the previous week
Seeing as Beijing isn't favoured at any of those criterion, and I think it's fair to say Christchurch will live to fight another day, and Beijing exits the competition.
Pretty happy to have lasted this far! Adios
Just pointing out Dublin weren't that far away from being lowest... but they had the bye anyway

yeah i got a little nervous than i realised I had immunity anyway.
Another week, another goodbye and this time it's the lovely folk from Rio De Janeiro who say adeus, that's goodbye in Portuguese by the way. Their form in their inaugural season hasn't been much to samba about and here we are with what we hope isn't the final nail in their season's coffin.
Hey Nigey any chance of adding a list of who's still in this to the OP?
So when we're looking at Purple's lovely reports we can figure out who we're competing against to win World Idol #CobraStrike

Yep, this is it.
Though you should know who the other teams in the comp are and not need to have them listed for ya. :P #slack
Hmm only outscored a couple of those teams this week.
Need to get our act together if we want to win this thing :P
What goes up must come down and this week, Cape Town found that out. They've been good recently, but all it takes is for a team to miss one beat and they're out of the race.
When does immunity stop being earned btw?
After the bye round?
Coz I really want it this week haha

I would say yes.
So if you do in fact have a shocker next week and need it, you'll survive.
After surviving on a technicality a few rounds ago, the Saints encountered a week from hell. Christchurch take their leave from World Idol and will want to pray a score like this week's is a thing of the past.
Dublin
PNL
Mexico City
Moscow
Berlin
Pacific
London
Pacific and London punching above there weight here!
As I found out last year and the year before, never underestimate London :'(
Pacific are just shower and shouldn't be up there tho ;)
If you love an underdog, get on the Pacific hype train!
The party is over for Berlin. They've had some real highs this year, but the lowest of lows has come and their score was something they won't want to see again this season if they want to keep their spot in the 8. For now though, they can kiss World Idol goodbye.

I'm afraid I've got some bad news...
Unfortunately, the underdog doesn't live happily ever after, as they were 18 points shorts of sending PNL home.
Pacific have done very well in this comp and should be proud of their effort to date, but we're nearing the end and they just weren't good enough to stay alive and see another week of World Idol.
Bad luck Pacific, unlucky to go out on a 140!

This week we say goodbye to London who put up a score that they would be ashamed of, especially when the next closest score to their 128 was a 144. Time for that royal wave goodbye guys.

Game over Dublin has this, the only team who could stop me is gone.
Injuries coming at wrong time hurts us. So I have sent my cat to wave goodbye
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag128/therings1/Cat%20Waving_zpsax5knmzf.gif)
We feel we could be adding to injury this week, but a very disgusting score sees Moscow eliminated and take the walk of shame as they are looking to find a pulse in a season that appears to be crumbling beneath them.
After all that the three best teams are left.
I might not rest anyone this week even though im playing the Dillos.
While we have a rested Priddis >:D.
Unfortunately we've reached the point in the competition where even great scores aren't enough. Scoring 150+ is always admirable, but for PNL, their score couldn't match the heights of those achieved by Mexico City and Dublin and they're left to rue what could have been.
Congratulations Mexico on your World Idol win. Thats a 3rd straight Runer up for Dublin.
The curse has been broken, Mexico City are the finally team eliminated from World Idol and Dublin is finally the winner of World Idol!

i was sure i would go 3/3 with the runner ups. happy to break the duck.
A big thanks to Nige for keeping an eye on the Idol this year :)
It's been a pleasure and good fun! 8)
Congratz Holz, it'll be a nice consolation prize when you're knocked out in straight sets for the finals :P.
I was pretty lucky not to be eliminated earlier on, so I'll take second place :P
Congrats Holz, and well done on running it Nige
