Hawkins gets a quick left-foot snap away from the pocket but it doesn’t quite have the legs, touched through for a behind. (Q1 4:40)
Rohan and Miers combine by hand inside their attacking 50, then again to Kelly who steps inboard and snaps truly on his right boot. First blood to Geelong! (Q1 5:18)
Membrey sends it long to the hot spot where Bruce holds strong in the air above Blicavs. He goes back and nails it. (Q1 9:00)
A couple of consecutive chips from Selwood and Ablett end with Guthrie within range. He goes back and splits the middle from 35. (Q1 10:29)
The Saints peg one back with haste thanks to the boot of Ben Long after he caught Taylor HTB deep in the pocket. (Q1 12:00)
Bruce grabs the footy out of the ruck and throws it on the boot. It’s touched and wide – a minor score either way. (Q1 14:16)
Parfitt’s tackle on Gresham allows the ball to spill out into the path of Dangerfield. Afterburner mode is activated but his kick from 40 narrowly misses. (Q1 16:15)
A classy sidestep from Miers opens up a channel toward goal. He offloads by hand to Ratugolea who misses an easy shot. (Q1 25:17)
Danger can’t break through the tackle but still holds his ground before dishing to Guthrie who snaps from 20m but misses. (Q1 25:17)
It falls out of Clark’s hands into the lap of Dunstan who snaps on the outside his boot, but the bend proves to be too influential, though for a behind. (Q2 4:55)
Bruce crashes a big pack to bring the ball to ground inside St Kilda’s 50. Lonie is first on the scene, snapping truly on his left from 35. (Q2 10:30)
Gresham grubbers a kick forward that bips and bops. A couple Saints get their hands on before Ross hands to Bruce in the pocket whose left-foot snap is on song.
(Q2 10:30)
Dunstan lines up for a shot from the fence but centres at the last moment. Rowan Marshall rises above the rest to kick St Kilda’s third in a row. (Q2 11:11)
Ben Long catches is rewarded for a solid tackle, then unleashes the shot from 45 to make it four in a row for the Saints! (Q2 18:39)
Just before HT, Duncan has a chance from a set play to launch one from outside 50. While the distance is there, the accuracy is not. (Q2 30:12)
Billings collects on the half-volley just outside the arc and pinpoints Bruce on the lead. On a tight angle for a leftie, he misses to the near side. (Q3 1:18)
Hunter Clark releases Hind with a fine handball but Nick rushes his kick a little and therefore can’t convert. (Q3 4:41)
Hawkins and Duncan’s hands are good, releasing a galloping Guthrie who launches from 50 and nails it! (Q3 6:30)
Membrey thinks he’s got the journey from 52 and it’s close, but not close enough, punched over for a minor shore. (Q3 8:30)
Newnes gets back just in time to squander Kelly’s shot on goal. (Q3 9:43)
Despite Coffield’s front position, Dangerfield is able to reach higher and clunk the mark coming in from Ratugolea. A bit of an angle is no problem as he slots the goal. (Q3 17:45)
Duncan makes it three in a row for the Cats to start the third term with a quality running goal. (Q3 22:25)
Long soccers it a couple of times but won’t be winning any World Cups with that strike, off to the left for a minor score from 15m. (Q3 24:13)
In search of the first final-quarter goal, Newnes lines up from 45 on a tight angle but drags it left. (Q4 3:44)
Ratugolea misses a set-shot then clunks a big grab 30 seconds later. This one from 25m out, directly in front, is much better, and the Cats extend their lead. (Q4 7:27)
Stewart coughs it up under pressure, deep in defence. The footy spills out to Acres who quickly throws it on the boot from the pocket and it sails over the goal umpire’s head! (Q4 13:34)
Hawkins feeds it out by hand to Bews who takes a ping from the pocket, but with a tough angle for a leftie, it’s no good. (Q4 15:03)
Ablett goes BANG and then BANG again with two high-quality goals in the space of two minutes, taking the lead out to an almost-certain winning margin. (Q4 18:18)
Hunter Clark sends it inside 50 where a convenient slip from Blicavs allows Bruce to mark with ease. He shoots from 40m, directly in front, and kicks his third of the evening. (Q4 20:06)
A hurried Taylor clearance from the wing lands in the lap of Parfitt at 45m. His shot drops short before Clark and Selwood link up, finally resulting in a Hawkins goal. (Q4 24:15)
Marshall launches it inside 50 where Membrey flies to take an impressive contested mark. Tim goes back, shoots from 45, and misses. Siren sounds. Well done, Cats! (Q4 30:14)
