A consistent midfield worker throughout the last decade for Hawthorn, vice-captain Liam Shiels led from the forefront in 2019. A dominant tackler throughout his time at the club, the three-time premiership player averaged the seventh most tackles across the competition including an outstanding 29-touch, two-goal performance against the Cats in round 18.Shiels is prime age to continue producing play in the heart of the midfield, less of a tagger now and more of a creator. He has been a consistent fantasy scorer across the previous six seasons and has played in 92% of matches across the previous three. Select him in early to middle rounds as a solid and dependable scorer without much in the way of upside. -

PLAYER DISCUSSION • I just jumped on for 2014. Here we go. . . - GJayBee - 127 months ago • On my "never again" list - DJ9343 - 137 months ago • Never heard of him until 2011 - BigV2011 - 160 months ago • True, i jumped on early tho so pretty stoked - FLOPITOUT1 - 161 months ago • Absolutely no way (based on previous statistics) that you'd be able to predict a break-out season from Shiels. There was always alot of positive pre-season talk about him, but that was in 2010 as well. Good to see him scoring well in DT, especially since he doesn't get in the centre square at every bounce. Keep going Shiels! - julza34 - 161 months ago • My 6th midfielder lol - FLOPITOUT1 - 161 months ago • new kane cornes? i thought liam shiels skills were pretty good and the kid can kick over 30 metres - dannyj - 162 months ago • Future brownlow medallist, next year will be his big breakout year - watty - 162 months ago • The new Kane Cornes anyone? Towelled up Scott Thompson, Aaron Davey and Brett Deledio in the first three weeks, and is picking up mid 20's possessions a game. And the kid isn't 20 for another two weeks! I'm getting on board - Mr Ploppy - 162 months ago • Might take a punt on this bloke. - migman19 - 165 months ago • Should get more gametime in 2011, but will Clarko keep him in run-with roles or will he let him off the leash? Has the physical goods to take Brown's role in the team. - Mr Ploppy - 168 months ago • i very much doubt he will play 16+ games we still have alot of players to come back and take his spot. Don't get me wrong he is a good player but we have better at the moment. Also could see him doing a run with role tomorrow to try and shut down someone, possibly Ablett - watty - 175 months ago • Bargin! He's dominated pre season, is bigger and faster than last year and is the golden child of the club! Will play 16+ games this year! - Benuto - 176 months ago • doubt he will get much playing time this year mate - watty - 176 months ago • Worth getting this year? - NADO95 - 177 months ago
