NEWS: Bower tells carltonfc.com.au "I definitely feel like a first-year player again. The game changes every year, so you can't just have one or two good years and expect to be picked [regularly]. I had to start again and that's the attitude that I've got to have coming off one or two bad years. That's really motivated me and spurred me on. I've never been this hungry and this desperate to get a game. It was a very difficult year coming off '09 and '10 where I'd been improving. It was pretty draining mentally with the injuries and my form was bad as well. It was a tough time, but my no.1 focus at the end was just to have a big pre-season. That's the beauty of footy - you get to start again."

NEWS: Michael Jamison, Jeremy Laidler and Nick Duigan all sit on the sidelines battling injury and Bower will start on Thursday night. It is his chance to prove that he is still a needed player and cement a spot in the Best-22 for the remainder of the season. Brett Ratten said from Visy Park that "I think it's going to give some players the opportunity to rekindle their careers with Russell down back and Bower as well."

NEWS: Injuries to players, tell many tales of 'What ifs'. Bower in 2009 had cemented a half back role in the Carlton seniors. He was young, agile, fast and had plenty of drive. Then injuries struck and he has battled to stay in the Best 22 ever since. He was even requesting a trade over the off season. To further illustrate his bad luck with injury, Bower was the Sub for Carlton last year. He only came on late in the game and so he decided to do some more work after the game at a nearby oval. Running laps, he sustained a calf injury. Cash Cow Potential: High upside and good price if he is named. No Duigan or Laidley for Round 1. It will be his moment to cement a position for the season. | This is a 2012 outlook article.

NEWS: Bower played in both NAB Cup matches across half back and looked serviceable. It's questionable if he can hold his spot in the Best 22, but if he heads into Round 1 in good form and is named, he could certainly pay out a good dividend.
