Jimmy Bartel hasnt really been mentioned much this pre season. Everyone seems to expect that he will gradually decline as he has the past 5 seasons, myself included.. but I just heard on footy classified that he had a stress fracture in his foot all last season but is fully fit this season and is apparently "ripe". Tipped to play less mid time but I still think he could average over 100 playing more forward and back anyway as he is a beautiful mark and kick for goal. Big game player that rises in the big games every time.
Reckon he would start pretty unique too.

Thoughts?

i prefer to get younger guys that could do a Dangerfield like Rocky or Zorko

Now that you can have him as a forward for sure he's worth it. Still get 90-100 most weeks which is just fine for a fwd.

Tex is a heaps better choice

I had Bartel since I thought he was too good to pass up. I think he will spend more time down forward which might hurt his scores with Stevie J expecting more time in the guts with the younger guys. He is there Mr. Fix it. They will send him where they need him which could be a bad thing since it could even be a tagging job sometimes.

Yeah I dunno, im just searching hard for another forward. I think all of the forward prems have big question marks this year. The only 2 I see really safe are cox and rocky

Jimmy has been my favorite player of all time. If he is going to drop off, it won't be anything significant, you should start with him :)

Jimmy has looked pretty lively in NAB.  The good thing about him is you always get 100%.  I'm tempted.

I like Jimmy.  Have him currently with Cox, Tex, and Rocky.  They are my 4 favoured starting fwds.  All above $500k, but I think they are good, safe, reliable options.

I think Jimmy is a good selection as his standard deviation is so small and one of the most consistant in the business. We all know how inconsistant fwds can be and for this reason having Jimmy as a starting pick up fwd will give some stability to what is a volatile area.

2 other players not spoken about much that could be good POD starting picks are Boomer and Petrie. Both played 22 games last year and averaged around 95. Boomer has played all games of the last 3 years and Petrie if you take out 2010 has only missed an amazing 2 games in the 5 full seasons.
Couple this with an emerging North Melbourne and you have 2 fantasic starting picks that are POD's.

Just a shame Boomer is suspended for the first 6 weeks  ;)

And with Jimmy, As a Geelong supporter he is my Favourite player, love the way he goes about his football. He did have stress fractures in his foot for the last 8 games last year, got a way from footy over preseson and feels the freshest he has in years. Is a super player and atm im tossing up between him and Zorko. Something tells me Jimmy might pip him  :)
