Thoughts

Dustin Martin was one of the most popular starters in 2012, and I think most people would agree he didn't treat us very well.

His average fell by 10, he teased us with great first halves all season and for those who kept the faith and carried them in their GF team - he handed them a season low score of 19. All that will leave him on a lot of blacklists for 2013, and even with his price lowered and his valuable MPP status retained is definitely going to be a far less common pick next year.

His consistency is somewhat of a deal breaker for me, his SD has been over 29 for the last 2 seasons and it will take an entire season of consistent performances for me to want to take the risk on him. I like to know what I'll get from a certain player and 8 scores under 80 in 20 games this year isn't flattering for a player you'd obviously want to be a keeper.

That being said he does have huge upside, he has the capability to average well over 100 and if he can lower his SD a little bit he could be an invaluable POD.
On his day he is the kind of player that will score massively, with 5 of his 6 tons this year being 110+ scores, what he needs to do is lift those lower scores off the basement and make sure he can be counted on for at least 80 every week.

Verdict

Not for me, I'd rather take the risk on somebody like Wright or just pick a full blown premium that I'm confident will serve me well.

Prediction

I think he can break the 3 digit average for the first time - 101.

I'll keep an eye on him in pre-season, but too unreliable.  If he reforms and kills it early, I'll look to him as a possible upgrade.

Dusty has oodles of talent but I just can't see him ever being an elite player.  A reform would require a complete turn around in work ethic and I can't say I see it happening.

Keep in mind hes 21. He will be elite at some point. His first 2 years were great and set a very high standard but reality is young players take time to be consistent and find there drive.

He is tempting at that price, ill keep an eye on him over pre season. So many times he was on 60-70 at half time and finished on about 80. If he can find a way to get his hands on the ball in the second half he could go big

I will pick him again this year. Martin just needs to add some consistency to his game and he will be a star of the comp!

+1 He's still so young, surely he's set for a big year.
Not all players turn into DT superstars tho

Adamant

He was on 50-70 at halftime pretty much all games, and ended up with 80-90...
With another pre-season under his belt, I can see him running out games better and pushing that 100+ average.

Got Zaha over Dusty from that price bracket atm. Can see both having really good years though :)

Got a good feeling about dusty this year.
Stayed away this year when everyone jumped on, he looked a little heavy and generally not very happy, think that showed with the way he faded from games.
He has come back to pre-season weeks early, slimmed down and looking extremely fit, that on top of the natural improvement he will receive from another pre-season is a good sign.
The thing I like most about him though is from all the footage and photos ive seen, he just looks happy, in a good frame of mind, something i dont think was there in the season gone past. Chocco williams will be a great assest for him as well, best development coach in the land. Ready to go boom imo, will take a punt.
