Rance in 2013

Position: D

Rance probably isn't  a name many coaches are even considering when thinking of there defenders for 2013 but I have reason to believe that it is going to be a breakout year for the Richmond defender.
The key to Alex Rance having a premium average at the end of the year hangs on Dylan Grimes. When Grimes plays, Rance thrives!
In 2012 Rance Averaged 100 in the opening 8 rounds before Grimes was injured and missed the rest of the season.
With Chaplin now likely to be coming across to Richmond, Grimes being a year further matured and having a big pre season, this is going to free Rance up even more. Expect him to take the second or third tall and create a lot of run and intercept marks.
It would be a risk to get him but if Nab cup shows him playing the role I have described then expect a big jump in his avg in 2013. Provided Grimes and to a lesser extent, Chaplin can stay injury free.

Predicted avg: 95- 100

Actually strongly considered him during the year before settling on Hanley

I am thinking of four or five strong backs to start with and he comes under the "consider" umbrella

Grimes really struggles with his body tho doesn't he?

Grimes has had hamstring issues the past couple of years but earlier this season they sent him to Germany to have them sorted out with a particular expert in that area out who apparently has a great record with getting hamstrings right.
He's only 21 so should bounce back and get his body right. With Chaplin there it may not matter as much as far as Rance is concerned

do you think Grimes could be a better scorer if he's up and going?

Yes I really do. In 5 of Grimes 9 games he scored a 92, 92, 89, 109, 115. If he can get his body right he will be one to look at in the future

Good stat, but I dont wanna count on Grimes to stay fit for Rance to score well.

Yeah thats the risk, however theres a guy called Chaplin on his way across that could mean that Grimes fitness doesnt play as much of a part in Rance's scores. Would have to wait and see what coaches describe the new roles being during pre season and watch nab cup closely
