2013 Supercoach Player Profile: Todd Goldstein

2011 Average: 113.2

2012 Average: 93.1

2013 Value Rating: B

2013 Breakout Potential Rating: B+

2012: Summary
Pre-Hmac injury:  It was an overall disappointing start for Goldy, failing to find his All-Australian form and consistency from 2011.  Without the #1 ruck spot he struggled big time up forward was even subbed off.  Definitely not a FWD/RUC prospect for the Roos.  Average: 71.4

Post-Hmac injury:  We began to see signs of the Goldy of 2011, still not as dominant but retaining some consistency.  However he dropped below 90 too many times during the season to be a reliable premium ruck.  Average: 100.27 (Note: SD remains the same overall @ above 29)

2013: What to expect
Prediction:
Hmac is all but gone and either way it appears North a leaning towards Goldy as the long-term #1 solution.  If that's the case, he's already underpriced 7 PPG.  He's going into the golden age for ruckmen so there's no reason he can't pull a 5 PPG improvement there either.  I feel picking Goldy is more a personal decision than a SC one, you can analyse him all you like but the only thing that is going to pull him back up to the premium 115 PPG is his own belief and professionalism.  It's really not as easy as reading into the stats to draw a conclusion.  That's what makes his selection a much bigger risk than someone like Roughy/NicNat.  I predict this will be the reason many coaches steer clear of him this year, there's a huge grey area over how high a performer he is.

PPG: 110

Great job batt :)

Im very tempted by this guy! Only 24 so Just hitting the prime of his career.
If he starts under 500k thats an absolute bargain for a guy that should avg between 110-115.

If Berger doesnt look right this guy will be my R2 with NicNat. Im even tempted to look at him ahead of NicNat as a unique and save 100k

Adamant

Great write up!
Could be a great POD, but I think I'll play it safe with NicNat + Berger combo.

tbagrocks

I don't like paying high prices for Rucks just look at Him and Mummy this Year  ???

But he comes under the strongly consider bracket for a starting gig epecially as the main man without a threat!

Capper

nice write up batt, although im not sold on goldy yet.

Ricochet

very nice writeup mate
strongly considering Goldy now that HMac looks like moving on
could be a great POD next year

Shihan7

Not for me, I am going Nic Nat and Berger. Great write up.

Jroo

Now with HMac probably gone, Goldstein looks like a good option again. My first ruck will be out of Goldy, Maric and Nic Nat.

maybe not... lol

Torress

upgraded goldy this year from giles at around half way. hmac was injured, roos had a fanciful draw 2nd half of the season. but i didn't feel very satisfied with goldy this year

in the meantime i'm sitting back with goldy/ryder as my ruck combo and cox/nicnat are smashing it bigtime!

when north played freo late in the year - sandi smashed goldy big time. i think i remember him even stating b4 the match that he's gonna just try and play defensive on sandi to curve his ruck influence. so the bloke had already conceded that he couldn't win!!! that really stood out to me and in that game i think he got like a 30 or something!!!

on the flipside you pay extra 100k for nicnat who just gets that many contested possies and ifluence point factor.

long story short i'm locking in nicnat and leuy now and i don't wanna get swayed by these goldy/jolly tempting types. although starting ryder was good this year!

Fair points torress but keep in mind that he is young for a ruckman. Hes only 24 so just hitting his prime now. Next year he will be the #1 man from day one which will also help alot. He was in the top 3 rucks in the comp in 2011, i expect him to be back up there abouts next year
