Thoughts

Ryan Griffen is an intriguing player for mine, his scoring patterns are quite interesting. He stagnated fantasy wise in 2012 after his 2011 breakout season, but with an emerging Footscray midfield he could have another mini-breakout which sees him emerge as one of the true midfield premiums in the game.

Without improvement I'd advise that you stay away, with a few exceptions (I'll explain later.)

He lands the 'burn player' double - Inconsistent and expensive. That standard deviation is enough alone for me to advise against starting him in 2013. Ryan Griffen is a form player, he relies on 4-5 game purple patches to pad his average and make him look like a fantasy superstar. This isn't all bad though, if he hits one of these strings of form during SC finals as he did this year he could be the final string to add to your bow and lead you to a premiership.

From round 5-8 he averaged 138.5, to go with his 4 game run averaging 124.75 to finish the 2012 season. It's apparent he can't maintain it for long, why I can't say for sure.

Verdict

Definitely can't start him, too much risk not enough reward. A viable upgrade target if he can hit some form during finals.

Prediction

Around the same if not less, can't see any way he'll increase his output. 104.

Nice one Sid.
Bullies will struggle again next year and can see Griffo copping majority of the tags.
Can't really see him improving too much so its a no from me

Adamant

Yeah as Ric said, unlikely to improve too much and very inconsistent.

LOCKED

In the past Griffen has rarely ever had 30+ possession games. However, in the past couple of years he has started to improve in this area. I don't think he has hit his peak yet, but he's not far off. The Dogs will get an easy draw due to finishing so low on the ladder. He's pretty durable. The Dogs have found a way to manage Cooney's knee a bit better and he will cop the tags since he is still the most damaging. All Griffen needs is that extra bit of consistency.

Yeah, not for me, he is too expensive and inconsistent.
