I've only been doing rookies in the sense of guys that were drafted this year, with the exception of O'Meara and Crouch. Anyway, I'm just doing the profile on him now. Will be up in about 20 minutes. ;)

Drafted - Round 4 Pick 75 St Kilda

Pierce has suffered a number of football related injuries throughout his teenage years but when he made it onto the field he did enough to impress the Saints recruiters. The project ruckman rarely gets more than a handful of possessions per game but apparently his tap work is excellent and he's got a good temperament. In the Under 18 Championships he played four games with Vic Country scoring 47, 29, 23 and 26 (Ave: 31.2). During the TAC season his scores were only slightly better -  20, 40, 65, 43, 40 (Ave: 41.6).

It would be foolish to think Lewis will see any action for at least 2 or 3 years but if the Saints suffer a calamitous injury run it might force their hand.

Kevin Sheehan says: An exciting young Ruckman with good endurance and the ability to take a nice overhead mark. Has genuine football smarts and very good game sense and awareness. His tap work is very good as is his ability to cover the ground and provide a tall mobile target. Has shown he can also go forward on occasions and be effective. His leadership and football character are excellent. Played in 4 of 5 games for Vic Country at this year’s NAB AFL U18 Championships.

Tony Elshaug says: We think he’s 203cm and he’s still growing we think. He was a teammate of Nathan’s at Dandenong Stingrays and he has had a tough year. He played through adversity with injury. He had knee tendonitis at the start, came into the championships and held his own against the best ruckmen in Australia. He broke his thumb just after the championships but fought his way back to play through adversity again and did a good job. He showed he could mark the footy and can ruck and play forward. He’s a good person too with a strong character and we’re pleased to have a young ruckman on the list to complement Ben (McEvoy), Tom (Hickey) and Rhys (Stanley). It gives us a good profile and we’re pleased to have him.

GEELONG draftee Jackson Thurlow has emerged as a dark horse to make his debut in the Cats' round one blockbuster against Hawthorn.

Despite being "nervous as" heading into the session, the 18-year-old Tasmanian was among the standout performers in last Friday's match simulation against North Melbourne at Simonds Stadium.

Playing across half-back, he impressed Geelong's coaching staff by displaying good skills and sound decision-making.
