Justin Hoskin

Birthday - 7/9/91
184cm/79kg
Port Adelaide Magpies
Price/Position - $89,300 Mid

Drafted - Pick 20 Rookie Draft Port Adelaide

With all the talk being about Mitchell and Colquhoun, new Port recruit Justin Hoskin has slipped under the radar. Yet another mature age recruit to add to this year's pile, Hoskin has grown up playing for Port since his junior days so he shouldn't have any problems fitting in around the club.

His stats pose some questions given that he started the season well in term of DT scores, then dropped off quite a bit. I'm not sure if he was given a different role or told to be more accountable but he ended up being dropped to the reserves for a handful of games so it may have just been form related. As you can see he finished off strongly with three nice scores which bumped his average up. At his best he is capable of pushing towards 30 disposals running around half back, much like his rookie competition Colquhoun.

However, unlike Colquhoun he will need to earn a spot on the main list through an elevation and that's when he'll come up against Kane Mitchell who is also striving for a spot. Much like a bad Facebook romance, it's complicated. Should he get a look in though, Justin has the potential to be a decent scorer. As with many of these guys the preseason/NAB will be critical to judging where they stand and how fantasy relevant they will be going forward.

Reserves - 63, 105, 103, 72, 120 (Ave: 92.6)
Seniors - 80, 89, 65, 43, 42, 52, 42, 66, 63, 51, 67, 84, 103, 88 (Ave: 66.7)

Parker says: Justin was one of the players we had training out here and I thought he showed why he was included in that group. He's very consistent with his training, he's had two solid years of SANFL football even though he's only 21, and he's another defender who can run out of defence and kick the ball well, a bit like Sam Colquhoun. We identified him during the year as a guy we might like to have a closer look at if he wasn’t drafted and, like I said, he impressed us out at training.

Mark Hutchings

Birthday - 25/5/91
180cm/82kg
West Perth
Price/Position - $102,700 Mid

Drafted Round 3 Pick 60 West Coast

After spending a year on St Kilda's rookie list in 2010 Hutchings returned to his native Western Australia and went about becoming one of the more dominant players in the WAFL. He is a former Under 18's captain for W.A and this year the 21 year old won West Perth's B+F while also finishing second in the Sandover Medal behind Kane Mitchell. The ball magnet midfielder had several 30+ possession games in 2012, producing scores of 86, 134, 66, 112, 143, 144, 116, 95, 107, 80, 89, 102, 107, 128, 77, 109, 98, 61, 92 and 150 (Ave: 104.8).

At a weaker club Mark would almost be a lock but we'll have to wait and see how he performs during pre season to guage if there's a chance of him getting games. You could expect a healthy average in the mid to high 70's should he play.

Kevin Sheehan says: Hutchings is a 21-year-old ball-winning midfielder who has dominated at WAFL level since being cut by St Kilda after one year on its rookie list in 2010. He battled osteitis pubis and hip problems early in his career but is now fully recovered, and polled 51 votes in this year's Sandover Medal to finish as runner-up. Also has leadership qualities, having captained Western Australia's under-18 team in 2009.

West Coast Eagles List Manager Craig Vozzo says: "He's 21 years old. He had a year at St Kilda, and has played the last two seasons in the WAFL. He's a former Western Australia under-18 state captain, and a really good young man who has gone back and done a hell of a lot of work at West Perth. He's an elite midfielder in the WAFL. He polled over 50 votes in the Sandover Medal this year. We're thrilled to have him on our list and thrilled to give him another chance. Hopefully some good things lie ahead for him because he's done it the hard way. He's a physically mature body, so I'm sure he'll do everything he possibly can to get a shot early on in the NAB Cup."

Max Duffy

Birthday - 11/4/93
188cm/78kg
East Fremantle
Price/Position - $102,700 Fwd

Drafted Round 2 Pick 39 Fremantle

Duffy appeared set for a first round draft selection in 2011 but was overlooked, partly due to off field issues. As for his football, he played seniors this year for East Freo and would have had a decent average if you take out a couple of injury affected games. His biggest problem DT wise (apart from a severe lack of JS) is that he only made a dismal 6 tackles during his 15 games for the season. His scores were 75, 67, 37, 58, 80, 76, 104, 44, 2, 52, 80, 70, 82, 84 and 7 (Ave: 61.2). Those numbers show some promise but I think there's a few things that need improving with Max's game before we see him taking the field for Fremantle. A possible downgrade target at best.

Kevin Sheehan says: Exciting medium forward with very good skills on either side of his body that can kick goals quickly. His speed-endurance is a real feature of his game allowing him to repeatedly get to a number of contests as well as presenting on the lead. Displays excellent goal sense as is evident in his tally of 33 goals at senior level this year. Kicked multiple goals in 10 out of his 15 games for East Fremantle in 2012.

The SANFL U18's can't be that strong, also he played quite a bit in the seniors so I don't think he played many U18 games at all

Just two games. ;) Still, two pretty darn impressive games!

Quote from: Mr.Craig on September 15, 2012, 09:16:58 PM
Under 18's - 202, 124 (Ave: 163)

The breakdown of his 202 game is -

22 Kicks - 66 Points
11 Handballs - 22 Points
10 Marks - 30 Points
4 Frees For - 4 Points
3 Frees Against - -9 Points
2 Tackles - 8 Points
49 Hitouts - 49 Points
5 Goals - 30 Points
2 Points - 2 Points

As for Lachie, if he's named Round 1 I can't imagine not picking him. You can probably tell from my profile of him that I'm pretty keen.

Perfect thanks champ! Also, if you're bored, a sneaky look at Harrison Marsh would be much appreciated :)

Adam Carter

Birthday - 17/4/94
179cm/71kg
South Fremantle
Price/Position - $102,700 Mid

Drafted Round 3 Pick 59 West Coast

Carter is a classy half back who captained W.A in the Under 18 Champs and is currently studying law at university. In the Champs he had a couple of good DT performances with scores of 95, 56, 53, 46 and 83. While at South Freo this season Adam played 12 games in the Colts and forced his way into the league side for 2 matches. Hs scores in the Colts were 39, 78, 43, 128, 64, 99, 80, 78, 132, 77, 52 and 78 (Ave: 79). Impressively he also went forward and kicked 13.6. His two league games generated scores of 37 and 50.

Carter looks like an excellent prospect but I would anticipate he'd be given the year to improve his body and skills at WAFL level before making a debut. Whether it's 2013 or 2014 he is one to look at given his capability to have high possession games.

Kevin Sheehan says: Small midfielder/defender who is extremely clean with his ball handling and ball use making good decisions and executing well. Averaged 16 disposals at an impressive 78 per cent for WA at NAB AFL Under 18 level. Brother to Mitch Carter at Carlton.

Craig Vozzo says: "Adam's a really good young man from South Freo. He can play either as a midfielder or as a small to medium back. He's a very disciplined player, very hard at it, and has really good skills, particularly by foot. He's played for Western Australia in the last two carnivals, so he's very well known. We ranked him a fair bit higher than where he was available to us."
