Leigh Montagna - St Kilda Saints

Position: MID

Price: $456,600 (Fanplanner)

2011 Games: 22

2012 Games: 20

2011 Average: 98

2012 Average: 96.6

2012 Tons: 10 + a 98 and a 99

Summary: I am quite surprised! Looks to be supremely durable missing only 5 games in 7 years since 2005 and over that period becoming one of the Dream Team Elite averaging 116 in 2009 and 112 in 2010. On this alone he looks a great buy but upon closer inspection, the past two years have seen modest returns. Can still score well and is one player that will be recommended for my brothers experimental team.

Verdict: A very outside chance... Can still score well but much better options around his price - also misses round 1.

Ele's prediction: More of the same in my opinion. Big one week then 60's for the next few - 99.

Yeah not in my serious side. Too much of a risk, especially when there is Murphy and Redden lurking at just a little more.

Ricochet

was great for me years ago but there a better options these days

Zombie2.5

Was a good Dter. But there are too many better options, some better value, but most more scoring potential anyways.

Adamant

No chance of making my team. Was great in 2009/10, but like Gilbert, Fisher and to a lesser extent Goddard....saints players have not been the same since that 2010 GF.

Heppell21

Way too overpriced. There are better options available.

Windigo

Was a must have in years gone by.

But those days are at an end. Pass.

Capper

The aints are getting a clear out at the moment and its not safe to pick any of them

Doesn't mind smacking a weaker side or two and has a lovely first three games... Anybody ballsy enough?

Anybody worried about his early fixtures? After Richmond, an up and coming side with a very strong midfield (Cotchin, Deledio, Tuck plus other lads like Jackson and Conca who might constrict Carlton), he faces Collingwood (Swan, Pendles, Beams, Sidebottom, Ball...), Geelong (Selwood, Bartel, Corey, Kelly, Caddy), West Coast away (Selwood x2, Kerr, Priddis), and Adelaide (Thompson, Dangerfield, van Berlo, Sloane, Wright, Reilly). 2 teams with good midfields and 3 teams with great midfields.

Murphy could come out of those first 5 games with an average below 100...

So what I'm thinking is to start with Montagna, see him smash those first three weeks, hold him in the side another couple weeks, then trade him to Murphy, who has hopefully dropped a bit of cash and Monty has gained a bit so they're about the same prices, then trade Monty to Murphy when the fixturing evens out and reap the benefits.

I think he misses Round 1 through suspension? could be wrong
