Picked with #1 overall in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, young Mr.Gibbs has been a mainstay in many Dream Teams over the last 4-5 years because of his DPP which made him one of the most picked players over that period.  Last year he averaged 107 through the season which had him playing Halfback/Midfield, had some backline affected scores where he was playing a negative role which took his scores down.  Averaged 112 from Rnd 13 last year, including his injury affected game in the 1st week of the finals.
Now listed as Mid only in 2012 many coaches have discounted from their considerations but personally I compare him to Jelwood, around the same average, the same age, probably the same amount of upside this year, but with Gibbs seemingly moving out of the backline & into the mids permanently his scores should consistently be +100, none of those 60-70 scores from last year.

Ratts has stated he is in amazing shape and predicted in a super footy article that he will elevate...

slightly unique bcos of those 60-70 scores u speak of bcos u will still get them, he was used as a stopper on guys like Goodes etc

Cicjose

that was because only Bryce Gibbs averaged 100+ points per game as a defender in 2011

no other defender averaged 100

Heath Scotland was next best at 99 ppg

Ziplock

I tip him for a 115 avg this year.

but you didn't hear it from me :P

I originally had J.Selwood, but the byes didn't work out, have Pendles & Barlow with the round 12 bye, & rate Gibbs & Jelwood at around the same so with the round 13 he's a good fit for my mids/team.

Colliwobblers

he is awesome no question and at 100+ or even 115 is he enough for a premium midfield spot alongside gaj,swan,pendles,thomo,rocky,boyd... then i put gibbs in there with the likes of redden and mitchel stanton murphy ect ect ect

there are so many options but i think gibbs is down the list enough to be a 6th mid (after upgrades when team is finished)

I wont be starting him.

mids Swan/Gaj/Thomo/Barlow - rooks

I think Thompson's being a bit hyped up this year, I doubt he'll raise his average above 110 & if he does it won't be to the lofty standards people are expecting of him.
just my opinion though

Colliwobblers

your right i don't expect him to lift either the only thing making me take him over rockliffe is his SUPER EASY draw.

I cant have pendles jelwood before the byes as i have swan barlow so who do you take........ mitchel or murphy... hmmmm

Ziplock

I think that playing gws + gc + PA twice each should raise his average a little. For instance, adding in the 150 pg for GWS, this year he would have averaged 112.

With his team giving him more support, and consisdering he only got a 70 against port for some reason, I think 115 isn't beyond him, great finish to the year as well.

can't see Mitchell or Smurph having much improvement in their scoring, might even have Smurph a bit below his 111.5 avg this year, Mitchell is running at his highest ever & IMO he's hit his peak, through the finals with some decent opposition he averaged 88, that's not something I'd want from someone I'm paying 554k for.

Phasir

Thompson costs 10k more than Gibbs & I believe Gibbs will average more ppg than Thompson, & his bye work better for my bye structure.

I have a feeling that those days are behind him, with Robinson coming along & the Blues having a better forward structure with Kreuzer & Rowe filling the bigman spots with the 3 small forwards around I think Robinson will be the #1 tagger leaving Gibbs to use his elite skills to damage the opposition through the middle & off halfback as a loose man.

+1

i think mitchel benefited DT wise by the absence form of hodge for part of the season?? not on my radar anyway

elli

yeah, I'd tip Hodge to step above Mitchell again in DT terms this year, by how much I couldn't say

Phasir

Mitchell will probably still average over 105, but not the 112 standards he set this year, I'd much rather have someone like Gibbs who's a premo with an upside over one who costs more & depreciates in value, might not pay off in the long run though :S
