Jukes

Thanks for the re-assessment. Was uncertain about getting him in next week because he only scored 26 in a half, but that re-affirmed by confidence in him. Cheers.

Might be worth waiting a week, but if he gets a full game this round vs GWS could SLAY as windy would say.. :)

Problem for me is I have TOO MANY round 11 bye rooks in FWD and MID so I simply cannot get him without accepting another donut in round 11.

I can either trade out Ellis for another rookie defender or move Smedts to defence and get another rookie forward...

Who should I be looking at bringing in? Already have Spurr (def), Treloar (fwd), Adams (fwd) and Hall (fwd)..

Which rookies are likely to get game time?

Have a look at this below and consider what you plan to do about the byes, if league you can write off the bye rounds and trade simply for the best players at the best time, if your going for overall score you MUST start to consider the byes.

http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,59265.0.html

Not a lot on the bubble at the moment, nothing in defence if you already have Spurr, I would move smedts back bring in a fwd rook in Zorko or Miles if he is named is a mid but you may be able to move a mid rook fwd to smedts spot and bring miles into the mids. Miles if named is a gun not sure why he has missed last few games scored near on a ton and averaged over 100DT points per game in the neafl last season.

Don't trade Ellis out, he may slip up to $20k max but he will make it back up fast and another 50 - 100k on top once he goes back to full games, reckon he was just being rested and had done everything right until being the sub. Mind you if not named this week may have to re-assess but making only 100k off a rook is a little dissapointing.

BOOTSMA and the others i'll get done tomorrow afternoon for you sorry busy... work kids bla....

I can tell you it may not mean he gets games but the Blues faithfull have adopted him as a cult hero and he is the new version of the KRUUUUUUUUZE effect.

Was a lot of fun listening to the crowd that game every time he got it they went nuts saying his name, kid must have been so damn excited

   Josh Jenkins

Age: 23yr 3mth    Games: 2     Born: February 8, 1989
Height: 197cm     Weight: 104kg     Position: Ruck

The Crows identified Jenkins as a trade-week priority after losing ruckman Ivan Maric to Richmond, as well as key-position players Jack Gunston (Hawthorn), Phil Davis (Greater Western Sydney) and Scott Stevens (retired). A deal was reached in the dying minutes of the AFL exchange period, with Adelaide agreeing to send pick No.31 to Essendon in exchange for the untried rookie. The 197cm basketball convert had a strong 2011 season playing in the ruck with Essendon’s VFL affiliate, Bendigo and also has the capacity to play in attack or defence.

So in short he has played 2 games and played well, was an in for suspendedHendersen I think from memory and will be fighting with not only him but also Walker when he returns. Very risky job security but may hold his spot. @nd most traded in rook this week in both SC and DT.

Rookie Player Rating (RUCK) 7/10 - given his 2 scores and his break even should be a 9 out of ten but -2 for job security issues. Pity he didn't debut after the byes so he could become Giles replacement for the bench once we all have 2 premiums for the field. While Walker and Tippett are fit his JS is shake so be wary of bringing him in for any reason other than to hopefuly get a few more games out of him and the cash he will make you.

An athletic midfielder with terrific natural leap and marking ability. Can play in a range of positions and had an excellent year with the Oakleigh Chargers, finishing fourth in the best and fairest. Has a basketball background with the Bulleen Boomers, which has helped develop his decision-making and clean ball-handling.

Draft history: 2011 NAB AFL Draft 3rd round selection (Western Bulldogs) No. 49 overall.

Rookie Player Rating (MID) 7.5/10 - Will debut as a running defender and likely to impress if given a full game, vest is a possibility but I think they might use him from the start as they will need the run out of defence against the Cats this week.

Pearce played 23 games with Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup across the past two seasons, averaging 17 disposals, seven contested possessions, four marks and two clearances per game. His role changed halfway through last season as he averaged 14 disposals and four marks per game as a running defender from Rounds 1-10, moving into the midfield from Round 11 onwards and averaging 21 disposals, five marks and five inside 50s per game.

Looking at the JS of Clay Smith you have to wonder if Pearces will be any better. Sure looks like a player tho I think getting games into him is a MUST this season, some games, how many?

Michael Coad    (INJURED)

DISCUSSION:  http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,46240.0.html

Coad was signed as a mature-age recruit for the 2010 VFL season, but a collision that caused bleeding of the kidney and broken ribs cruelled that season.

After two senior games in 2011, a severe hamstring tear brought him down again.

Despite two injury-interrupted seasons, the 28-year-old has been retained on the GC SUNS rookie list.

A rugged defender who plays above his height.

Considered somewhat of a superstar in the SANFL â€" he finished second in Sturt’s best and fairest in 2009 â€" Coad has been connected with a number of AFL clubs at various stages of his career, but until now no one had taken a chance on the supremely fit mature-aged utility.

Draft history: 2010 Rookie Draft selection (Gold Coast) No. 2; 2010 rookie elevation; 2012 Rookie Draft selection (Gold Coast) No. 38.

However, luckless defender Michael Coad will be forced to undergo surgery on his thumb after sustaining the injury playing in the reserves last weekend.

The busted thumb follows a severe hamstring problem that sidelined the mature-age rookie for most of 2011, while bleeding of the kidney and broken ribs cut short his 2010 season in the VFL with the Suns.

Rookie Player Rating (DEF) 7/10 - Mature aged can play will play, when he gets his broken thumb operated on and fixed. Pass him up obviously until he has played his second game, not looking like being available until well after the byes now.

James Hawksley

   James Hawksley
#12   Brisbane Lions
Age: 23yr 3mth    Games: 29     Born: February 5, 1989
Height: 187cm     Weight: 80kg     Position: Defender
Last Drafted: Round 3, Pick #38 2006 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Brisbane Lions
Supercoach Price: $304,900   Supercoach Profile
Dreamteam Price: $268,600

Introduction
A creative and versatile player hailing from Western Australia, James Hawksley is a medium-sized midfielder/defender who has wonderful foot skills and a great understanding of the game. With senior experience under his belt, he can now expect to push for a more regular senior position.

Background
• Hawksley played most of his junior football with Safety Beach where he won three Best and Fairest awards before moving to Mandurah Centrals after U13s where he won a further two Best and Fairests. He later played with Peel Thunder in the WAFL.

• He was also a skilled cricketer as a junior but decided to pursue a football career as it provided greater opportunities.

• He was an AIS/AFL Academy graduate who represented Western Australia at both the U16 and U18 level where he impressed national scouts.

• He was also a member of the Australian team that took on the Irish in the U17 International Series in Perth and was named among the team’s best players.

• Highly touted prior to the 2006 AFL National Draft, Hawksley was snapped up by the Brisbane Lions with their fourth round selection (Pick No.38 overall).

• Hawksley was allocated the number 12 guernsey which had famously been worn by Brownlow Medallist Jason Akermanis before he was traded to the Western Bulldogs at the end of 2006.

2007
• Like the majority of draftees, the thinly built first-year player began his debut season with the Suncoast Lions where he impressed playing in a variety of roles both on the wing and across half-back.

• He ruptured a tendon in his finger during a training drill midway through the season which forced him to miss the final nine matches of the AFLQ season.
• As he was unable to participate in any training drills due to his hand cast, Hawksley spent time recovering back home with his family in Western Australia.

2008
• After some impressive displays for the Suncoast Lions early in the season, Hawksley earned a call-up for his first senior match in Round 11 against the Fremantle at the Gabba.

• He experienced little game time during his debut performance against the Dockers and was sent back to the Club’s reserves side the following week.

• He returned to the senior team in Round 19 against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium in Tasmania and showed poise beyond his years playing across half-back.

• He retained his spot for the three consecutive senior matches including an exciting performance against the Western Bulldogs in Round 20 when he collected 17 disposals and took four marks in defence.

• He was omitted for the side’s final match against Sydney at the SCG but finished the season with valuable experience in four senior matches.

2009
• Hawksley started the 2009 season playing with the Lions Reserves side where he remained one of their key players. He played predominantly on the half-back line and his clean skills and cool head under pressure were highlights of his performances.

• He was regularly among the Reserves' best but didn't crack it for a senior game until Round 18 against Collingwood at the MCG. Although the Lions lost heavily to the Magpies, Hawksley's effort was one of few shining lights in an otherwise disappointing outing.

• He became a regular fixture of the senior side and played the final five matches of the home-and-away season.

• He was unlucky to be omitted from the senior team on the eve of the Finals, but was given a late call-up after Josh Drummond failed to complete a fitness test. He played in both of the Lions' 2009 Finals to take his career games tally to 11.

• He averaged 12.6 disposals across seven matches in 2009 and gained more valuable senior experience.

2010
• Hawksley quickly proved himself as a valuable defender in the Lions Reserves, and was called to the senior side early in the season to take on Port Adelaide in round 3.

• He was a regular on the list from this point on, playing 10 of the next 11 games before returning to the reserves in round 14.

• He returned to the senior side for his final game for the Lions in 2010 against Geelong in round 17.

• Across these 11 games, he impressed with his versatility and collected an average of 16 disposals per game.

2011    6    60.3
2012    1    90.0

Hawksley struggled to make an impact on the Lions side until Round 16, where he played six of the last eight games across half back. He has played 28 games in four seasons. Hawksley needs to walk the walk in 2012 and establish himself as a regular senior player or may struggle to remain on the Lions list at the end of the season. 2012 is a very important season in the career of Hawksley, he needs to take his chances with both hands.

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/afl/another-painful-lesson-for-embattled-young-lions-20120513-1ykcj.html

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) 7.5/10 - I rate him high, for a couple of reasons, in his only game so far he topped 20 possessions. Also he is definately playing for his carreer, if he gets opportunities this season he should TAKE them. He will also see plenty of it in the Lions back line. Job security the big risk here.

Should play again this week and should keep playing, will have to play well or see other players injured to hold his spot tho you would think. Definately been on the fringe for a few seasons now.

Rebounding defender with good closing speed and long, penetrating kick. Team orientated and spoils well. Makes very good decisions, taking the right option with the ball. His 2.98 seconds for 20m at the National Draft Combine showed his natural speed. Father Brad played at Fremantle.

Rookie Player Rating (DEF) 6/10 - I think he is underdone and not yet ready for the top level of AFL football Carlton will be aiming for from it's group. He may see more games with Murphy out if he comes in to plug a gap left by Gibbs or Robinson who might move into the midfield. Still wouldn't count on it. Think he needs a fair few more VFL games to come into serious consideration for the AFL side, may get more games when the Blues hit form and come up against weeker sides, not what you want in a rook, pass for now.

Darley update?
:)

Originally an outside player, Sam Darley has progressed into an impressive tough midfielder who won Tasmania's most valuable player award at the 2009 NAB AFL Under”16 Championships, averaging 28 disposals, 10 handball receives, six marks and 17 uncontested possessions per match ” all ranked number one at the carnival.

In 2010 he played 11 matches at League level for North Hobart and was named in the best players six times.

At the 2010 NAB AFL Under”18 Championships he played all five matches with his performances all elite. He averaged 25 disposals, 12 handball”receives, 18 uncontested possessions, four rebound and four inside 50s per match. He was subsequently awarded the Hunter Harrison Medal for the best player in division two and was also named in the 2010 NAB AFL U18 All Australian team.

Sam Darley has averaged 24 disposals and 86 afldreamteam and 101 supercoach points in the NEAFL. Provides good run off halfback and should score around the mark of kennedy and Bugg, plays a similar role.

Got him in for Bugg myself this week. Paid for me to turn Greene into Ablett. Will be keeping him for cover year long now.
