His 2011, season included 4 tons, a high of 112, the season started strongly for him with all these tons in the first half, but faded very badly in the back half of the season with MOST scores under 50. Looking at the seasons past and his averages it is apparent that Chaplin is a consistent but average DT performer, probably the right price for his potential unless he can find the form of early last season and maintain it for a full 2012 season.

There is no news on his pre-season no news on his late season demise in 2011, no news at all, and I guess that no news is good news.

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) 6.5/10 - should be a lot higher playing in ports defense line he will see a lot of opportunity to score DT points and looking at the way he started last season over 8 games he was averaging over 90 so has the clear ability to be a DEF premium, however his back half of the season was woeful and without seeing a very impressive nab cup campaign he would be an extremely risky pick.

I much better SC player than DT player IMO, and if he can maintain a full season like the first half of last season would be a great pick at his mid price.

Premium Player Rating (MID) 9/10 - remember I don't do 10's. Reviewing last seasons stats, the easy draw he has this season does not automatically equated to higher scoring, often he scores better against the better teams. What it does indicate is the door is open with the 2x GCS and 2 x GWS for 4 games of 50+ possessions.. don't expect the GCS to be quite the bonanza it was last season however improvements have been made. Thompson is a gun he is one of the handful of Ultra Premiums, and having the round 11 bye and the great draw first half of the season he is a LOCK in Colliwobblers 2012 team.

Thoughts on Jimmy Bartel CW? Post Ling effect?
In my opinion Christensen will take Ling's midfield position. But that's just me. Will be interesting to see how CW reads it.

Ok so take out the round 13 score of 2 and Bartel averaged 102.25 for the 2011 season, missed a couple of games and had a couple of shockers but had a ton of tons. Not a high ceiling but he is an elite player and due to last seasons (2) is under priced and potentially under rated.

I see Christensen taking a more permanent role in the fwd line hovering around the midfield getting some time in there but mostly playing fwd, he is too good around the goals and too inexperienced as a pure midfielder. Where as I see Bartel as a truely premium midfielder and cannot imagine him leaving the midfield for a fwd role, he just plays too well as a midfielder and is a very important part of the cats midfield, Christen may sneak in from time to time and Bartel may sneak fwd or he has done in the past but I do not see a role change for either of them other than christensen to lose the vest and cement his spot this season.

This image of Bartel and GF in Hawaii has no relevance to my review other than to say, well he must be content in his home life right?

Premium Player Rating (MID) 9/10 - Bartel gets a 9 but just, he sits maybe just under the elite premium midfielders but is capable of lifting his true average of 102 last season and joining them quite easily. The cats are desperate to keep him and he is out of contract this season so he will be playing his pants off to get a nice pay rise. I presume also he will be playing where he likes given the clubs plan to keep him happy and his plan to perform at his best this to me equals MIDFIELD. Expect a VERY big year from Bartel, would make a great smokie, a unique, will lift his average to 100+ and make the brave that pick him happy indeed. Will be close to a top 10 mid this season.

Great stuff so far, was hoping you could clear up a few questions for me Colliwobblers.
a) Dayne Zorko?
b) Is having McIntosh, Giles, Stephenson and Rowe too weak or good strategy?

Just would like a look at chad wingard, shannon hurn, Josh Jenkins, James Sellar, Marc Murphy if possible thanks.
After reading about some mids just wanna know where Murphy will stand, also if Hurn could step it up, heard he is fitter and been working on his endurance.
Would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Rookie Player Rating (MID) 8.5/10 - high draft pick, club has said WILL PLAY, tough player full preseason not mature aged but tough for a kid in a struggling side I expect a good number of games and he is a jet. If a strong nab cup and listed for a round 1 start this guy is likely going to be worth the extra $50K.

I'll get Zorko done for you shortly as for the ruck question, it is a matter of opinion and here is some (many) oppinions.

For my opinion, 2 (cheaper) premiums, 2 rooks - but I was and am tempted by the 1 premium 3 rooks option also.

2011 Wrap, a DT high of 131, no real shockers but a LOT of average scores leading to an average average... Another case of a much better scoring SC player than a DT player, simply doesn't rack up the possessions to be a DT premium defender this is also due to the WCE style of play and success in keeping the ball out of their own 50 last season.

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=128052

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) - 7/10 listed as a half back but plays too often locking down key forwards, Waters comes back in this season and this could help or hinder Hurn'd DT output. Hurn is a VERY capable premium defender but needs to be given a rebounding free running role which involves more possessions, he is a great user of the ball and this is reflected in his higher Scoring. Has had a great preseason and will improve in 2012, if possible, it is not Hurn that concerns me but his role. Could average 85+ and would be a steal at his price but could average 70 - too.

Rookie Player Rating (RUCK) 6.5/10 - don't we all wish we KNEW if and when he will play. The guy is very capable and about AFL ready, should debut for Adelaide this season 100%. They didn't woo him by offering him another year in the Magoo's. Question is when will he play and where will he play. Booted 5 goals in a VFL match last season for the bombers so we don't mind if they stick him up fwd. Going well in the preseason watch him in the nab cup and expect him to get games early to mid early season. Higher rating if there was certainty of his role and start.

Mid Priced Player Rating (RUCK/DEF) 5/10 - very harsh but with good reason, I believe he will get senior games maybe right off the bat, but he won't be playing in the ruck he will be playing as a key defender. That much us certain and he may pinch hit / help out in defensive stoppages. The rating is also harsh due to being mid priced not a rookie, but if he goes will and looks like lining up down back for the DEE's from round 1 he is value at his price given the games and the opportunity even as a key defender he is cheap for a likely 50 -70 average if given full game time. Still the same could be said for the best rooks available down back at half his price.

Hey mate loving the work here.. Very detailed!

Premium Player Rating (MID) 9/10 - GUN! utter GUN, coaches assoc. award, lifted again last season with awesome results for DT and better again results for SC. Hard to find room for him in my starting side but well on the radar for an upgrade target, but that is a personal choice should average close to the 120 in DT this season and won't be beaten by but a few overall. As for my SC team he is a starter locked and loaded.

Hi again Colliwobblers, Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you with other peoples requests. But when you get a chance could you please do a run down on Ryan Griffen, and Nathan Van Berlo. I've seen a few people mention Van Berlo, so hopefully others will benefit from my request. Thanks mate.

Nathan Van Berlo (ADE) MID $462,700
#7   Adelaide Crows
Age: 25yr 7mth    Games: 138     Born: June 6, 1986
Height: 184cm     Weight: 84kg     Position: Midfield
Last Drafted: Round 2, Pick #24 2004 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Adelaide Crows

The club's youngest-ever captain endured a difficult first season in charge, as it slumped to its worst win-loss record and parted ways with long-serving coach Neil Craig.

Like many of his teammates, van Berlo was below his best in the first half of 2011, but improved markedly in the latter part of the season,  finishing second in Adelaide's best and fairest.

DT Wrap for 2011 Season = if his form were to continue you would be starting him in 2012 ! 8 scores of 100+ the highest of them being 143 BUT his last 7 scores of the season. 120 / 137/ 102 / 126 / 143 / 102. Shows us what NVB is capable of. Those were not all easy sides either or wins one was a 100 pt thrashing at the hands of the cats.

The big WORRY about NVB is the 12 scores under 90 worst of them being a 60. He needs to iron out that inconsistency and give us a run of 22 like last seasons final 8.

Premium Player Rating (MID) 8/10 - should be higher could be lower, the key with Van Berlo is to watch the role he will be playing, if playing free and loose in the midfield like he was at the end of 2011 GET ON, he will average 100+ and is cheap for that average, tho not as cheap as Barlow more reliable I think in his second year as skipper in an improving side with a far better (fresher) coach. Expect more tons and a break out "like" season from the skipper.

Ryan Griffen (WB) MID $486,500
#16   Western Bulldogs
Age: 25yr 6mth    Games: 143     Born: July 27, 1986
Height: 188cm     Weight: 86kg     Position: Midfield
Last Drafted: Priority Pick #3 2004 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Western Bulldogs

Ryan Griffen backed up his stellar 2010 season with another solid year, playing every game and finishing 3rd in the Bulldogs B&F. He finished second in kicks (341) and third in goals (24) behind full time forwards Hall and Giansiracusa. He was the Bulldogs' main attacking midfielder, leading the club for inside 50's (130) and goal assists (24).

Griffen collected 100 disposals and kicked 10 goals during a four game purple patch mid year coinciding with the Bulldogs 4 game winning streak, although his next few weeks were relatively quiet as the team struggled.

Arguably his best game was the 33 possessions and 3 goals in a crushing win over Brisbane in round 2. He also racked up 28 possessions and 2 goals in the final round win over Fremantle.

With his running bounces and evasion abilities, Griffen gains the most ground for the Bulldogs, although at a cost of lower disposal efficiency compared to elite midfielders.

2011 in review, only 5 scores under 96, 15 scores at 100+, 2 in the 90's, and the worry 5 scores under 75 including the worst under 50. IF he can eliminate these 5 games and give us a few more of his best (129) he will be in the elite premium mids.

Premium Player Rating (MID) 8/10 - another player that is capable of much in DT terms and sits frustratingly underneath the top echelon of elite midfielders. Priced well and given he performs significantly better when winning the keys to watch out for are not only his form nab cup but for improvements in the new bulldogs youth and the team itself, has the capability to average 110, but has to keep positive and eliminate the sub par scores from his season.
