Tim Mohr (GCS) DEF $115,800
HEIGHT 6'3'' / 1.95
WEIGHT 98kg
born 19/10/1988 - 23
ORIGIN Casey Scorpions, VIC

DISCUSSION:   http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,48736.msg652439.html#msg652439

Tim Mohr is a tall defender who was recruited from the Casey Scorpions in the VFL. The 22 year old is originally from Tasmania and played seven games for the Tasmanian Devils before joining Casey in 2008.

At 195cm, Mohr is surprisingly fast for his height and was a revelation in the VFL in 2011, finishing up the year with 97 votes to take out Casey’s best and fairest award.

Mohr is known for his strength and long kick and should be a key ingredient in the GIANTS backline in 2012.

Rookie Player Rating: 9.5/10 - I hate to give a perfect score to anyone, so 9.5. GUN, best rookie defender available, tall, very fast, strong AFL ready, learnt a ton from FEV and Caesy's best and fairest as well as considered one of the stars of the VLF. Nothing but good reports on him. Rebounding defender that will run through the midfield, only an imbosile would have this kind of talent used as a KPP or a lock down player, his syle is reminiscent of goddard and delidio the way they can attack off HB and run in the middle, and his delivery is akin to sucklings big straight left boot. A lock for any 2012 DT.

KIERAN HARPER (NM) FWD $248,400
#23   North Melbourne Kangaroos
Age: 19yr 7mth    Games: 14     Born: June 15, 1992
Height: 187cm     Weight: 79kg     Position: Forward
Last Drafted: Round 2, Pick #27 2010 National Draft
Last Drafted By: North Melbourne Kangaroos

An extremely quick player with a towering mark and the ability to turn a game, Harper brings an X-Factor to North Melbourne. A Vic Metro representative in the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships, he looms as an exciting prospect in front of goal.

Brad Scott says: He's got really explosive speed and can kick goals from outside 50. He kicked four goals for Victoria against WA in the championships.

He's a really explosive player and someone we hope can almost fulfill the role of Brent Harvey when he retires.

DT 2011 average 52 from 14 games. SC 53.6

Mid Priced Player Rating: 7.5/10 (FWD) - this is both a generous and a harsh rating for this kid. Firstly let me say he is jet will get better and better and knows how to kick long goals clever goals, kows how to find the footy and i will go as far as to say he is a future leader at the club. Should be in the best 22 even if there is arguably better he is a player they need in the future and he should play every game. BUT BUT BUT - the infuriating way in which NM played rookies last year, a game here a game there, a sub here a vfl game there DID MY HEAD IN. There are no guarantees with any rookie at this club on TOG or rounds they will play, you will need a crystal ball to work out who will play, how much, and when. But as for this guy he can play should lift his average to 65-75 given the opportunity to play regualarly and given the improving NM midfield. At his price not a rook a mid pricer but a cheap one, still i'd call him a big risk just for being a kanagroo for my reasons stated already.

Rookie Listed - needs to be elevated to the senior list, But has trained with the Dee's pre-XMas and is the sun of a GUN :) like that....

Not a lot to say about this bloke, he has a lot of VLF history played at many clubs and is a tough nuggety midfielder who seems utility like, flattering but possible to compare him to someone like Ball. His father was a star.
Thomas put himself forward to Neald at the Dee's trained with them and was later drafter by them and now rookie listed.

NAB CUP FULL GAME

      Player Name   K   H   D   M   HO   T   FF   FA   SG   G   B   DT
5   Thomas Couch   8   7   15   2   0   7   2   1   0   0   1   72

Rookie Player Rating: 7.5/10 (MID/FWD) Should be one of the 3 promoted off the rookie list at the dees. The benefit is the Dee's saw him and his ability, he must be considered a mature age recruit and likely he will be developed and played. As the article above shows the guy has passion and determination and in a developing Dee's side he could really become a player. Looked good in his first full game of the season.

Is Big Daniel Merrit of Brisbane primed for a big year?

Word is that he is, but this certainly does not make him DT relevant, to pick Merrit would be a terrible idea, as a key defender and a lock down player he is a super GUN. Not too many players are as effective as negating opposition forwards and shutting down / stopping forwards.

But he will not score well in DT, never has and never will, he simply does not play that type of role that allows it.

What Merrits return to fitness and form means in DT terms is that hopefully Adcock will be free to play his DT friendly game along with others in the lions defence such as Hanley, and recruit Docherty who will slide straight in as soons as he is fit and ready to go.

So yeah in summary Merrit is good news for the lions, good news for DT Adcock, Hanley and Docherty owners but in himself is not relevant to DT.

great work CW, what about Billy longer

Billy Longer (BRL) RUC $148,200 Pick 8 ND
Number    5
Height    202cm
Weight    95kg
DOB    12-05-1993

Discussion: http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,44258.0.html

Introduction
An incredibly quick ruckman, Billy Longer's height, skill and agility helped him to excel at stoppages as a junior courtesy his supreme tap work. He is strong overhead, and has been shifted forward on occasions with great success. His credentials were such that he was honoured with the Captaincy of Victoria Metro's side in the 2011 U18 Championships.

Background
• Hailing from Macleaod JFC in Victoria, Longer was an early developer who dominated the local junior leagues before heading down the elite pathway with the Northern Knight's U18 TAC Cup side.

• Longer was a gun junior basketballer and also took up the martial art of Muay Thai for a number of years to help strengthen his cardiovascular abilities and hand-eye co-ordination.

• He was part of the AIS/AFL Academy group that toured South Africa in 2010, and in the same year was selected in the Victorian Metro side as an underage player.

• Despite suffering a bout of Glandular Fever during the 2011 pre-season, he overcame the illness and played a dominant role in the TAC Cup competition, finishing Runner-Up in the Northern Knight's Best & Fairest award and being named as ruckman in the TAC Cup Team of the Year.

• Longer was also honoured with Captaincy of the 2011 Victorian Metro team, and helped lead Metro to their first U18 National Championships title since 2008.

• Throughout the Championships, he averaged 10.8 disposals, 21.5 hitouts and 5.3 marks per game, and was subsequently named in the U18 All-Australian team.

• A tweaked hamstring meant that Longer was unable to participate in much of the 2011 Draft Combine fitness testing, however he remained one of the most sought after draft prospects in the country.

• Despite being touted as a potential Top 5 selection pre-Draft, Longer slipped to the Brisbane Lions who took no time in reading out the 202cm ruckman's name with their first round select (Pick No.8 overall).

What Victoria Metro Coach Rohan Welsh says...

“The way he has grown as a player, like the last three games he played for us, was just outstanding. He has come so far."

"I’d liken him to a Dean Cox. He has a good motor, he is a good kick and is really good overhead. He could go on and play 200 games."

What AFL National Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan says...

“He’s 202cm so is a genuine ruck size. He uses his left hand in the ruck, but is a right foot kick around the ground."

"He is very, very quick but needs to get endurance into his game. His second and third efforts are very good around the centre square. He’ll also work on his ability to be a danger up forward as a goal-kicker."

"He’s come up through the AIS-AFL Academy Program. People like Luke Darcy have influenced him."

What Northern Knights Coach Anthony Allen says...

“He is a real talent. He has made good improvements with the physical side of his game, with his tackling and his aggression. He has added that to his repertoire, apart from obviously competing really strongly in the ruck."

“There is no doubt in my mind that he is the best ruckman in the TAC Cup.”
“He is a solid young man but he is a pretty laconic sort of fellow. He has probably become a bit more focused and serious with his football this year. That’s not to say he is any less friendly, but you can see he is really hardening up with his attitude towards it.”

What afl.com.au's Jason Phelan says...

"Longer is a natural leader who was the dominant tap ruckman at TAC Cup level and at the national championships this year. He can also pose a significant threat up forward."

"He's a right footer, but goes up with his left hand at most stoppages, which is rare."

"He's also more than capable with his right hand, which makes him a tricky proposition for opposition ruckmen. He doesn't get a heap of possessions around the ground just yet, but his combination of speed, endurance and footy smarts has him well placed to slowly bring that into his game."

2011 TAC Cup Statistics
Avg hitouts: 29
Avg disposals: 12
Avg contested possessions: 8
Disposal efficiency: 54%
Avg marks: 4.2
Avg goals: 1.2

Voss admitted he was shocked that Longer was still available and said his selection followed the club's golden rule of choosing the best player available with their top pick.

"He was well recognised as the best ruckman in the draft and he is highly rated by his peers," he said.

Rookie Plyaer Ranking (RUC) 5.5/10 - expensive due to #8 draft pick, clearly the best rookie ruck going around and by a long way. The only thing other than his price holding back his score is his chances at getting an early game and much TOG. He is definately recruited to be the #2 ruckman and will be sharing ruck duties with the burger, but when? Hudson is definately there and will be starting the season alongside burger so where and when does this NEW ruck fit into the mix. Absolute star of the future, for DT this season maybe a great upgrade target, for me and almost everyone else giles and stephensen will be the starting rooks due to likely early games and rowe and this lad the likely upgrade targets, tho as always the danger is if longer does get early games he will star and we will all miss the longerboat.. :) like that :)

I beg to differ with your analysis of longer- Leuen is obviously number one ruck, and hudson wasn't recruited to play QAFL. IMO (and the opinion of Brisbane supporters as well), Longer won't be picking up very many games this year- maybe a couple at the end of the year to blood him if brisbane aren't a chance for the 8, but the rest he'll be developed in the QAFL.

So I agree with what your saying as above it is Burger and Huddo at the moment but htis guy was recruited to be a #1 or at least #2 ruckman, you don't take a ruck at pick 8 that was touted to go earlier imo for no reason, so as I said for now where does he fit in???

Developed through the QAFL, and blooded late in the season sounds about right to me, I guess it just depends how fast they want to bring him through and thier plans for burger and huddo, keeping in mind he is a replacement for clarke anyway so its not like they have a "spare" ruckman anyway.

Ziplock

I was just disagreeing with your rating of 9/10. I would honestly drop him down to a 5.

Brisbane took him because he was so highly touted :P People expected him to go closer to just inside, or just outside the top 5.

Fact is, they don't need him. A couple of games here and there, maybe used as the sub occasionally, but not really THAT great of an option :P

Hey, just wondering how you think Dyson Heppell will go this year?
