My 21st pick in the All-Time Fantasy Draft is...

...WA's, "Mr. Football".

John "Jack" Sheedy is one of the most colourful characters ever to be seen on and off the field. He was also a incredibly talented footballer, renowned for one of the best drop kicks in the league, a superb handballer and most importantly a tough team player.

His football career started very randomly due to World War II, starting out at East Fremantle, then at South Melbourne and even the Navy in the NSW league. But once the war was over, he settled down and started his career at East Fremantle, where he would be for 10 years. In these 10 years he would become:

  • 4-time Best and Fairest winner (1943, 1948, 1953, 1955)
  • 2-time premiership player (1943 and 1946)
  • 4-time Captain (1949, 1950, 1952, 1955)
  • 2-time Coach (1949, 1952)

After 210 games for East Fremantle, he was poached by East Perth in 1956 to be their captain coach. His success was immediate as he led the Royals to a premiership. Amazingly, in the following six seasons, Sheedy and his Royals would make ever single Grand Final. Unfortunately, he would only win two of these. It is also here, that he would tutor Polly Farmer...  :o

He would retire in 1961 with a career tally of 338 senior games (plus 22 for WA) to focus on coaching. In this same year, he'd coach Western Australia to a famous State of Origin win against Victoria.

Now I mentioned he was a colourful character....

...one funny incident involving Sheedy was at the tribunal. After being reported twice during a match for abusive language, Sheedy turned up to the tribunal with a bible, swearing that "it was not he that committed this sin". The panel weren't amused and handed him a 4 week ban and from there on in, he was also known as "Reverend Jack".  ;D

Well, it seems the c4v3m4n's Titans now have two "Mr. Footballs"...

...yep, I'm happy with that. The line-up looks like this now:

FB:  Bernie Smith, Jack Regan, Vic Thorp
HB: Ron Clegg, Ted Whitten, Geof Motley
C:  Robert Flower, William Truscott, Jack Sheedy
HF:  Dermott Brereton, Royce Hart, Stephen Kernahan
FF:  Bernie Naylor, Austin Robertson Jnr, George Doig
Followers:  Gary Dempsey, Jack Dyer, Len Fitzgerald
I/C:   Jim Stynes, Bernie Quinlan, Charlie Sutton, _____

Who will be my final pick (unless we extended it to emergencies, then its my 4th last pick)?

PS. There's only one true "Mr. Football"... :)
