For my 16th pick in the All-Time Draft, my forward line is truly complete with the addition of....

The Superboot.

Bernie "Superboot" Quinlan played a total of 366 senior games (177 for Footscray and 189 for Fitzroy) and kicked 815 career goals (239 for Footscray and 576 for Fitzroy).

He was an exceptional player (of rare talent as he could play anywhere with devastating impact) that seemingly got better the longer he played (shame he's career ended then :P). He played his best football at Fitzroy where he won the Brownlow Medal in 1981, the Coleman in 1983 and 1984 and was named in the All-Australian team in 1983 and 1984.

But what he'll be remembered for most was his powerful kicking (hence the name Superboot). Some of his massive kicks include:

  • Holding the world record for the longest measure drop kick of 77m, back in the late 60s. Not sure who holds it now.
  • Winning an exhibition kicking competition (with players from numerous codes: AFL, rugby league/union, soccer, gridiron) with a kick of ~90m! :o
  • And finally, it's reported he once kicked a goal from the wing of Whitten Oval (an estimated distance of nearly 100m!! :o :o )

A devastating player and a true champion.

I reckon Quinlan is an awesomely great pick for my side. With him in, it gives the forward line (that's where I'll play him) incredible flexibility. Anyone from the forward line can come off and it there's no structure loss whatsoever. Plus that mammoth boot of his helps. :P So, the c4v3m4n's Titans now look like this:

FB:  Bernie Smith, Jack Regan, Vic Thorp
HB: Ron Clegg, Ted Whitten, Geof Motley
C:  _____, _____, _____
HF:  Dermott Brereton, Royce Hart, Stephen Kernahan
FF:  Bernie Naylor, Austin Robertson Jnr, George Doig
Followers:  Gary Dempsey, Jack Dyer, ______
I/C:   Jim Stynes, Bernie Quinlan, _____, _____

PS. Check out this kid I came across. Look at amount of goals he's stacked up in 3 seasons as both an U/16 and senior player. The next Peter Hudson?  :o

Marcz has a tactic and he's sticking to it. Props go him for going unique ;)

AFEV

I know he does and I know what it is but I still think there were better picks who would have gone with his plan.

RiOtChEsS

 ;D cheers Le

i mulled over many others but he was ultimately what i was after structurally and skill set wise...

Hulmie will be skipped in another couple of hours as well. At least they will just be auto-skipped from here until they get on though.
