Max Bailey

Summary:

Max Bailey was "this" big, honest! Since making his debut in 2006, Bailey has played only 6 games. 4 in 2006, and 2 in 2009. Bailey's knees are as fragile as Jason Akermanis' credibility and as such is difficult to give a true reflection on him, and his skills. There is a long history of big men given a long time to develop. Some are successful (Leigh Brown, James Podsiadly, Mark Jamar) others not so (Sean Rusling, Jason Laycock, Mitch Thorp).

But, all reports say he is talented. Will be interesting to see how he fits in the team with Renouf and Hale.

Max Bailey AFL Profile

The Crystal Ball:

Based on m0nty's fanplanner

Price: $87,500

Position: RUC

Recovery from knee injuries are always touch and go. Has anyone heard of his progress in training? I'd imagine the Hawks will give him a chance.

Decision:

I'll give him a short-list, and if his preseason form is good, could easily fit in as a 3rd or 4th ruck.

hawk_88

All reports suggest he is training very well.

At one point he was the second tallest player in the AFL, still might be, I haven't checked into it lately.

Despite his size though, he is relatively quick and agile, and good by hand and foot - a rare thing for tallish ruckman, an amazing thing for the giant he is. This is why he excites Hawthorn fans so much.

Hale is in the 22 as the second ruckman/forward. So the main ruckman spot really is between Renouf and Bailey. If fit and in form, Bailey will take the spot as much as it pains me to see Renouf the battler lose his spot.

Potential cash cow and as the 4th ruckman there is minimal chance of a significant impact on your team if his injury reoccurs (touch wood it doesn't). If he looks like getting the ruck spot during the pre-season matches, jump on him.

Hawka

He Will be on my bench if he gets through the pre season .He is a great talent so will play and thx to hales move and the sub rule only 1 of bailey and renouf will play.Iwant it to be renouf but im afraid it will be bailey. But He isalready locked in for me at this stage

Fletch74

Definitely a short lister for that price and could end up being very handy in that 3rd/4th ruck position.

Mr knee reco  :-\

if he does it again, (need another reco) in early season 2011.. i will probably shed a tear, cos he probably wont play another AFL game again

Junktimer

ill short list him, watch NAB cup

MajorLazer

As much as I hope he plays well for Hawthorn, I don't think he will be fit enough and his awful run of injuries puts me off him.

Fletch74

The Hawks wouldn't have kept him if they didn't believe he could be fit this year ML.

MajorLazer

Yer I know, but we have kept him for a while and every season he has had an injury. Not saying that it will happen and I hope it doesn't but I can see it happening.

Maca24

most likely i will have him on my bench  :)

Justin Bieber

Don't much like the guy if you've heard my story about him.....

But a shortlist nonetheless :P.

MajorLazer

I think I may have heard that one. Something about an "errand" kick (in your words). :P
