For my Supercoach team of 2011, I will be applying a similar tactic to my forward line with my back division.

Forwards
This will be my forward structure. The players will be chosen depending on the availability of Malceski/Waters/Kennelly type players this year as well the different Rookies named. Also some players I name in certain areas should be named in others, but as I currently don’t know prices, it could change. I will also want at least one MPP for MID/FWDs, FWD/RUCKs and FWD/BACKs:

• Super Premium/Premium
• Premium
• Premium/Cheap Premium
• Cheap Premium
• Mid Priced (around 350K)/Returner from Injury
• Mid Priced (around 350K)/Returner from Injury/Rookie
• Mid Priced (around 350K)/Returner from Injury/Rookie
• (Rookie, Rookie, Rookie)

Super Premiums
The ‘Super Premiums’ are players that will cost over 600K after averaging over 110 in 2010. These are the players that you must have at least 1 or 2 of, not necessarily at the start of the season, but by the end they are a must have.

Paul Chapman (GEE) - $618,400

• Number 1 averaging forward of 2010
• MPP MID/FWD
• Accurate kick
• Get’s forward and kicks goals
• Injury prone: misses 1 or 2 matches per season due to ‘general soreness’. This however might end next season because of the byes if they appear at the right time for Geelong

Premiums
The ‘Premium’ players will cost between about 475K and 600K, averaging between 90 and 110 for season 2010. These players are the consistent performers week in, week out and can’t go wrong with any of them.

Nick Riewoldt (STK) - $578,400

• Best KPP forward in the competition
• Kicks a lot of goals
• A lot of contested marks
• Due to the 25 he scored in Round 3, he will be cheap, even at just under 600K so will be in most teams

Lance Franklin (HAW) - $570,800

• Amazing player if he can stay on the park
• Seems to either be injured or suspended every second week
• Lowest score in 2010 was 73 which is good for a KPP

Alan Didak (COL) - $550,500

• Generally accurate kick
• Often runs through the midfield
• MPP MID/FWD
• Very consitent but can get tagged out of the game

Brent Harvey (NTH) â€" $533,000

• Generally accurate kick
• Often runs through the midfield
• MPP MID/FWD
• Can get tagged out of the game

Matthew Pavlich (FRE) - $527,500

• Generally accurate kick
• Often runs through the midfield, even though his midfield time was cut down a bit at the start of the season with the addition of Barlow for Fremantle
• MPP MID/FWD
• Seems to score better running off Half Forward

Jonathan Brown (BRI) - $518,800

• KPP Centre Half Forward, and a good one at that
• Injury ridden 2010
• If he stayed fit he has the potential to score really high as we saw at the start of the season and in patches
• Should be cheap for what he can do

Cyril Rioli (HAW) - $503,700

• Generally accurate kick
• Often runs through the midfield
• Often an X-Factor player
• Tackles often
• Might become a MPP MID/BACK

Adam Goodes (SYD) - $500,900

• Often plays as a KPP up front which hurts his scoring
• Usually either dominates or muppets
• Generally accurate kick
• Does well when he runs through the midfield (hopefully the new coach will play him there more)

Dale Thomas (COL) - $500,200

• X-Factor player
• Is starting to come of age
• Often runs through the midfield
• Possession sometimes lets him down
• May be listed as MPP next year for MID/FWD

Daniel Giansiracusa (WBD) - $493,000

• X-Factor player
• Struggles with a tag occasionally
• Often runs through the midfield
• May be listed as MPP next year for MID/FWD

Jack Riewoldt (RIC) - $490,500

• Cousin of the best KPP forward in the competition
• Kicks a lot of goals (won the Coleman Medal in 2010)
• A lot of contested marks
• Increased his 2009 average by over 20 points per game including a 217 point game
• Key part of a team that is on the rise

James Podsiadly (GEE) - $487,700

• KPP forward
• Kicks a lot of goals
• A lot of contested marks
• Was his first season in 2010 as a 28 year old rookie
• May have an even better season next year as he gets used to the increased level of the AFL over the VFL

Travis Cloke (COL) - $481,700

• KPP forward
• Kicks a few goals but is often very innacurate
• A lot of contested marks
• Often plays up the ground

Ryan O’Keefe (SYD) â€" $480,500

• Generally accurate kick
• Often runs through the midfield
• MPP MID/FWD
• Can get tagged out of the game, however, during the last couple of rounds of the season Roos used him as a run-with player and he did ok in terms of shutting down Hodge and his scoring

Cheap Premiums   
The ‘Cheap Premiums’ are the players who will cost between 350K and 475K averaging between 70 and 90 in 2010. These are often players who were premium players the year before and averaged a lot less than the season before or they have taken a step forward and will be looking to increase their average again next year.

Heath Grundy (SYD) - $474,400

• Key Position Player
• A lot of marks from opposition kicks
• Accurate kick
• Added bonus of MPP FWD/BACK

Adam Schneider (STK) - $473,700

• Was one of the better Small Forwards of 2010
• Fairly consistent
• Accurate kick
• Kicks goals
• Occasionally ran in the Midfield

Richard Douglas (ADE) - $471,700

• Generally accurate kick
• Often runs through the midfield, especially now with many of the Adelaide Veterans retiring
• Can kick goals
• Increased his 2009 output in 2010 by almost 20

Colin Sylvia (MEL) - $467,400

• Generally accurate kick
• Kicked a few goals
• Often runs through the midfield
• Can struggle with a tag
• MPP MID/BACK

Jarrad Waite (CAR) - $466,300

• Key Position Player
• Susceptible to injury and suspension
• Often plays up front and kicks goals
• Accurate kick
• Added bonus of MPP FWD/BACK

Brent Staker (BRI) - $465,200

• Key Position Player up front or runs the Midfield
• First season at Brisbane
• Accurate kick
• Increased on his 2009 average by about 35 in 2010

Eddie Betts (CAR) - $448,800

• Small Forward that plays as a hit up player
• Generally either has a brilliant game or a terrible game
• Kicks goals

Ricky Petterd (MEL) - $445,200 (Should get a 20% discount taking his price to $356,200)

• Can play as a small or tall forward
• Also runs through the midfield as shown by his MPP status as FWD/MID
• Kicks goals
• Started like a house on fire before dislocating his shoulder round 6

Travis Varcoe (GEE) - $439,000

• Small Forward
• Occasionally runs through the midfield
• Accurate kick
• Very consistent season, hardly had a bad game but only had one 110+ score and only one other over 100

Mark LeCras (WCE) - $436,500

• Sucked a lot of people in this year as everyone was told he would get more midfield time
• Very inconsistent
• Was one of a handful of players to score over 200 but that was one of his two centuries

Brent MaCaffer (COL) - $435,800

• Started the season poorly but finished well
• Two scores of 150
• Generally accurate kick
• Plays a forward tagging role so usually gets a lot of tackles
• Very unique

Barry Hall (WBD) - $434,500

• Key Position Forward
• Played really well in Supercoach up in Sydney
• Can go missing
• Could have a better year next year as he will be used to the Bulldogs system

Brad Dick (COL) - $427,500 (Should get a 30% or 20% discount, assuming a 30% discount, could be $299,300)

• Small, crumbing forward
• X-Factor
• 2 games in 2010 because of injury with first game 124 and second game 37 due to injury
• Could be a good mid-pricer

Scott Stevens (ADE) - $427,000

• Runs off Half Back
• A lot of marks from opposition kicks
• Inaccurate kick occassionally
• A lot of contested possession
• MPP FWD/BACK

Daniel Bradshaw (SYD) - $425,500 (Should get a 10% discount so will take his price to $483,000)

• Full Forward
• Getting old
• Can be an X-Factor
• Can go missing as is shown with a 4 in round 7, but he was under an injury cloud

Tom Hawkins (GEE) - $416,000

• Key Position Player
• Kicks some goals
• Bad start to the season but had a good second half
• Can play second ruck which gets him touches around the ground

Jared Brennan (BRI) - $414,300

• Plays all over the ground
• Real X-Factor type player
• Had a really poor season by his standards
• MPP MID/FWD
• Transfer speculations link him with a few clubs

Shaun Higgins (WBD) - $413,900

• Incredible potential but is soft as butter!
• Runs through the midfield and rests up forward
• MPP MID/FWD
• Very Consistent around the 90 mark

Jarryd Roughead (HAW) - $412,600

• Key Position Player
• Very poor season by his standards
• Can be an X-Factor or can go missing

Mitch Morton (RIC) - $409,400

• Plays up forward usually but got some midfield time late on in the year
• Will be good if he continues to play the midfield
• Can kick goals
• In a team that should do better next year

Justin Westhoff (PTA) - $404,200

• Generally accurate kick
• Utility Player
• Was either really good or really poor

Robbie Gray (PTA) - $402,700

• Touted as the next Gary Ablett Jnr
• Is very injury prone missing half the season but unfortunately won’t get a discount as he played 11 games
• Will be good if he can stay on the field
• Runs off half back and occasionally

Shane Edwards (RIC) - $398,600

• Very consistently between 70 and 80
• Only once over 100
• Will not go up in price much but will consistently give you a score

Leigh Brown (COL) - $395,800

• Utility player
• Average kick
• Can kick goals
• Second ruck to Jolly
• MPP FWD/BACK

Jay Shulz (PTA) - $393,000

• Key Position Player
• Can be an X-Factor player or can go missing
• Will be his second season at Port Adelaide next year so could do better

Chris Mayne (FRE) - $383,300

• Runs off half-forward and through the midfield
• Injury ridden season
• Best hair in football!

Robert Murphy (WBD) - $377,700

• Plays up front most of the time
• Last couple of rounds he played off half back and did well
• Didn’t do as well as in previous seasons
• Injury ridden season

Mid Priced
The ‘Mid Priced’ players averaged up to 70 for 2010. These are usually the 3rd or 4th year players who will be looking to take the next step forward or they have moved clubs and needed to take time to get into their new clubs system.

Patrick Dangerfield (ADE) - $371,200

• Generally accurate kick
• Usually plays off Half-Forward
• Will run through the midfield, especially now with many of the Adelaide Veterans retiring
• Can kick goals
• MPP MID/FWD

Michael Hurley (ESS) - $368,700

• Key Position Player
• A lot of marks from opposition kicks
• Accurate kick
• Should have a better season this season
• Added bonus of MPP FWD/BACK

Kurt Tippett (ADE) - $359,400

• Key Position Player
• A lot of contested marks
• Season was like Adelaide’s, poor start but finished a little better
• Should have a better season this season
• Added bonus of MPP FWD/RUCK

Josh J. Kennedy (WCE) - $359,400

• Key Position Player
• A lot of contested marks
• Was either astounding or terrible
• Really poor second half to the season

Lachie Henderson (CAR) - $349,900

• Key Position Player
• Often plays up front and kicks goals
• Shall have a better season as it is his second with the Blues
• Added bonus of MPP FWD/BACK

Adam McPhee (FRE) - $343,700

• Plays a run with role
• Plays all over the ground
• Can be an X-Factor player if gets some consistency
• Added bonus of MPP FWD/BACK

Jack Ziebell (NTH) - $330,800

• Mixed kicking ability
• Runs throught the middle
• A lot of tackles
• A lot of rotten luck with injury, breaking his leg in the middle of both his AFL seasons
• MPP MID/FWD

Chris Knights (ADE) - $324,000 (Should get a 20% discount taking his price to $259,200)

• Generally accurate kick
• Usually plays off Half-Forward
• Will run through the midfield, especially now with many of the Adelaide Veterans retiring
• Only played 5 games because of injury, and had a low average because of the 6 he score in round 20

Drew Petrie (NTH) - $294,760 (should get a 30% discount which will take his price to $206,300)

• Played only 2 games this season
• Normally plays full 22
• Averaged very high in previous seasons so will be a steal
• Mainly plays forward
• MPP FWD/RUCK

Brendan Fevola (BRI) - $262,700

• Key Position Player
• Really poor season for him
• Injured groin during the season
• Will be his second season at Brisbane next year so could do better

Returner from Injury or Year off
The ‘Returner from Injury or Year off’ players did not play a game in season 2010. These are players that did well in 2009 but did not play in 2010 for different reasons.

Beau Dowler (HAW) - $331,800 (assuming a 50% discount he will be $165,900)

• Played all season in the VFL and got named in the best several times according to Hellopplz
• His last couple of games were fairly good in 2009 but is no superstar
• If he gets games, could be good for roughly 150K or less after the discount
• MPP for FWD/BACK

Rookies
The ‘Rookies’ are first year players for 2011 so will be cheap. These are the only rookies I know of at the moment.

Brandon Matera (GCS)

• Will be a Milne like small forward I am assuming
• He is related to the great Peter Matera (Nephew I think)

Cleve Hughes (GCS)

• Has played a handful of games for Richmond
• That is all I know about him really

Matt Little (GCS)

• Has played a game for Hawthorn
• That is all I know about him really

Mitch Thorp (GCS)

• Has played 2 games for Hawthorn
• That is all I know about him really

Nathan Ablett (GCS)

• Key Position Player
• Played poorly at Geelong and lost interest
• Can take a mark and kick goals
• Will be well worth a look if cheap

Steven May (GCS)

• Know nothing about him

Jack Darling (GCS)

• Know nothing about him

Prospective Forward Line-up

This is my first look at a forward line in full. Rookies will come later when we get full details of them. The players in bold are locks unless injured and the ones underlined are almost certainties unless they are too expensive to fit in. I may need some more rookies but that will depend on the availability of them up Forward, but there may be a couple of Gold Coast Players who have had a year out of the game that could be reasonably cheap as well. This is a very rough sketch and will probably be very different from the final outcome.

I wouldn't take Chappy as he's quite expensive, infact I wouldn't take any Super-Premium Forwards, unless you count Roo as one, which you didn't. I'd also take Pav over Cyril, also gives you an extra MPP player. J Roo is another I'll stay away from, maybe Brown Dawg or Daisy are options, or possibly to save money Douglas.

Petterd could be quite cheap!! A Fwd/Mid MPP would seem me sway to him a bit if he is discounted.

Brennan, Higgins, Morton and Gray are others I'm looking at. They've burned me before but I have a Little Faith in Gray and Higgins.

Knights and Petrie likely both will be in my team at those prices. Dowler was a savior for me last season. Hopefully not many spot him this off season!!! Smokie if he can slot a place down back or forward ;).

No doubt about Mayne with that last comment 8).

and Q, i dont know how often i am going to change my forward line, i reckon i will do it last but will put Roo, Petrie and possibly Hurley in straight away and work around them

i think i will go rioli over pav, especially if i have another fwd/mid somewhere up front as i think rioli could do really well next year if he gets a full pre-season under his belt

Gray might sneak into the team as well as morton and brennan, as i said with higgins, soft as butter so will be very unlikely to be in my team, maybe 2012 if he plays a full 2011

Don't get Gray!! As much as you want him and as much promise as he has, he'll definitely get injured. I was looking at him all pre-season, he went in the mids and got great scores so I wanted him even more. He got injured and was going to miss round 1 so I kept him in my team and had cover for him missing round 1. This injury just went on until he returned in round 5! (I'd traded him out by then but it was still a waste of a trade). After 5 games he missed another 8.

Trust me man, as much as you want him, he's going to miss a lot of footy.

If he starts next year the same way he did this year then I will be steering clear this time around! That being said he was spending the vast majority of his time in the forward line early in the season.

During the second half of the season he spent his time rotating between the midfield and the half forward line. If he does this in the preseason I may jump on the Goodes train.


In relation to J Roo, I will probably be jumping on him, he improves each year and there is reasonable argument to pick players in improving teams as they will get more of the SC points than last year. This to me equals value.
